If you have pain like a piece of glass in your back passage when you have a bm, it could be a fissure (tear) caused by straining or muscle spasming when you have a bm - this often produces bright red (fresh) blood when you wipe or can be streaked on the stool itself. & you get a feeling of incomplete emptying. UC blood is normally darker blood & a bit mucusy & can be on the stool & streaked through it. Could otherwise be hemmies! Hope this helps.

I would tell your GP. Because I am a retired mechanical engineer not a doctor.
I am like you wary of medication because it's not an exact science
Colitis is a personal in that it's different for each.
Best wishes

I have both dark red blood & mucus & bright red blood every time I go to the toilet. My Gastro consultant said bright red blood could be from haemorrhoids but he didn't seem worried. I am surprised my blood count is always normal as I have been bleeding for over a year. I have been on various medications but nothing worked so far.
You'd probably have to go to your gp who would refer you to a surgeon to check for haemorrhoids. I've not done this as my flare up is bad and I have terrible flatulence (with blood) and would be too embarrassed!
Do you have a Gastro appointment soon?
