UC flare ups? Urgent.

Hey guys!
I honestly didn't know where to post this question, my mum is already really upset because of my flare ups and all... But i had a sever flare up 3-4 months ago when i recently got off prednisone, now before we go any further i was diagnosed with UC when i was around 8-9 yrs old, im a boy. I'm now 14. I've always had regular flare ups, I'm usually on a lot of medication. But currently im only on mesalazine and vitamin D. I just got off another set of preds, but its been around 3 weeks now and i just went to the toilet like i normally do, started out with diarrhoea, then just now i got blood again.
I honestly do not know what to do now, I was a grade A student, and because of this im slipping in school. The only options according to my doctors are either Azathioprine (Imuran) or Surgery. I don't want either! I've heard way too many bad things about Azathioprine. Could anyone please help me out on what to do. I really don't want to tell my doctors, I know that is unreasonable but you've got to understand. I've never had a moments rest ever since i was diagnosed. Any diet tips? Living tips? anything?
Thanks ever so much.

The point of this is not me telling you to stop taking your meds, nor am I saying dont listen to your doctors, or that medicine doesnt work. but what Im saying is sometimes we have to be our own doctors and see what works and what does not. because in the end, only WE know how our body feels. WE know if a certain medicine is making us worse. Too much medication isnt good after a period of time. So like I said, Im not saying to stop. Just pay attention to your body and I wish you the best of luck. Keep your spirits high. You'll pull thru this. Keeping fighting brother. Dont give up.

Also diet is important too. I avoid fruit because of fructose , yogurts and yogurt type drinks ( sugar in these things are a killer for uc) found wheat in bread cereals etc can be harsh too. I bought genius bread at supermarket gluten free not be so I was intolerant but more sensitive to it. U can schuss out ur own foods that don't agree with u be so everyone is different. Take good multivitamin too. Sugar in general is bad but I have found since I started my glass of psyllium etc I can tolerate things a bit more. So if u wish u can try this and I wish u luck with it. I no it's made mega difference to me and I now have no bother with mine.

Whipworm Therapy
An interesting observation is that infection with the pig whipworm may be effective treatment for ulcerative colitis. Scientists believe that the worms that inhabit the colon alter the immune response and thereby reduce the inflammation. In one study, 43% of patients with ulcerative colitis improved after ingesting pig whipworm eggs for 12 weeks. The impetus for investigating treatment with the whipworm came from the observation that ulcerative colitis was not common in developing countries where intestinal parasitic diseases are common.
