UFE scheduled at the end of the month, any advice?

Hi this is Kimjon,

I scheduled UFE for the end of this month July 2019. I am nervous and excited. The radiologist is going to only use plastic- he often uses metal coil’s also but I asked him to only use PVA plastic and he said OK. He’s going in both sides and I am going to spend overnight in hospital, I have a family member that’s going to take care of me when I get out. I am nervous and excited.

Anybody have any advice especially for pain control and anything that I might need to tell my relative that would be appreciated.

I had to give up on my Myomectomy because there were too many hoops to jump through with my other medical conditions- anemia and high blood sugar.

HELLO! ! You will be so happy when it is all over. I stayed overnight as well. Right after surgery you have to stay on your back for two hours. They give you a pump with medicine in it. I kept using the pump as often as I could and I never really had much pain. I would advise you to try to eat a little bit as soon as you are allowed. The pain medicine did make me nauseous and I threw up once but it was because I did not eat anything.

Once I was home I rested for a good week. I took the pain medicine they gave me but I really never experienced any severe pain. I weaned myself off of the prescription medicine within a couple of days and just took Advill Everyone is slightly different. You will be so happy and it will all be worth it!

I am definitely going to ask to eat as soon as possible. You said you weened yourself off of the pain medication after a few days - was that in the first week? How big were your tumors ?

      Thanks.

yes that was the first week. I had a large one about the size of a baseball and several small ones I’m so glad I went through with this procedure. I feel like I have my life back and I am no longer anemic.

    Hi KimJon,

When I had this same procedure back in Oct. 2017, I had a rough time with the meds. They made me nauseous, but I decided to go home the same evening (I'm in the U.S.) and was not required to stay at the hospital. Unlike Linda96127, I had to stay still for 6 hours after the UFE, which I slept on and off during that time, so it was no problem. After the meds wore off, I had some pain and only used Ibuprofen for about a week. Five things that helped me once home: 1. A heating pad; 2. 10-15 minute walks outside with someone; 3. Rest when possible 4. I also meditated with a guided meditation twice a day prior to the procedure, right before the procedure, and once a day at home (I do realize that there are people who do not feel that they can meditate or feel it helps.) 5. Positive attitude

Lastly, you will need some pads or liners on hand since you will have some discharge. I went in with a period and left the hospital with staining. Good luck with your UFE! I may have had a bit of discomfort, but my results were great. No longer have anemia, periods are light, and my life is mine again. 😃

PS. If you like Ginger tea or Lemon Ginger tea, that helped to relax me and ease my tummy. It does not stop the cramping feeling, but calms you.

I am in the US also.

Lying still for six hours sounds like a lot. I hope the pain meds knock me out.

I got a heating pad, walking sounds good, I will get plenty of rest, I have a tape for meditation so no problem there and yes I’m trying to be positive and putting it in God's hands.

I have a lot of pads and liners from this whole ordeal so that won’t be a problem. Going in with a period in coming out spotting sounds like a dream! Do you remember how big your tumor was when you went in for the procedure?

      Thanks.

Kimjon, I had 4 tumors with the largest being 13 cm. I did not go for another MRI after due to finances, so not certain the size of them now. Gotta love insurance.

I'm scheduled for UFE at the end of this month.

    1. Any of you ladies who got UFE through the "groin area", was it through your leg or your pelvis "between your legs"?
    2. Did you get to choose which leg?

I kind of think I’d like it to not be my driving leg.

    Hi Kimjon,

How did your UFE go? I'm scheduled for the procedure in about two weeks and I'm super nervous but excited to be doing something about my fibroids.

I hope yours when well and you're well on your way with your recovery!
