Ulcerative colitis???

Can constipation be a symptom of ulcerative colitis?? I have read many things saying diarrhea is a common symptom...bur could ir be Ulcerative Colitis-C?? Trying to learn more about it so I have a case to persuade the consultant to do a second colonoscopy

    Yes it can be. I was constipated for years, told it was IBS then UC after a colonoscopy. I followed a low FODMAP diet for a few weeks and the constipation disappeared. I have never had loose stools.

    Hi, I have ulcerative colitis proctitis and suffer with constipation a lot. I still have to run to the loo as have urgency even when constipated. I sometimes alternate with diarrhoea. Apparently it is quite common. Do you have a Gastro Nurse you could speak to? If not definitely mention it to your Consultant. Are you on medication for the UC?
