Ulnar Nerve Issues/Questions

Hi guys.

For years I have had issues with my pinky and ring finger going to sleep if I end up bending my elbow at night. No pain, just a strong feeling of them "falling asleep"

About a month ago I hit my elbow very hard on my desk chair and had instant shooting pain and pins and needles in my elbow and pinky/ring finger on my right arm. It went away after about a half an hour, however, for the past few months, I get that pins and needles/numb feeling (no pain) in my pinky and ring finger if I bend my arm for more than a few minutes (using a phone, etc)

My general doctor said it can take up to a few months to heal and suggested to avoid surgery.

Does this sound like something that could indeed heal? I just bought a brace to use at night on that arm.

If I need to see a specialist, what kind of doctor should I see?

Thanks!

Aggravated nerves heal verrryyy slowly. i would give it a few months. It sounds like your nerve is entrapped. I would do some physical therapy on your elbow to help free up the nerve.

if at any point you start losing movement in your fingers or cant grip things then you should get surgery before you lose full motor function down your arm.

My ulnar nerve subluxated (moved out of the canal) so I needed mine moved.

Only use a specialist who deals with nerve issues of the upper extremity NOT regular orthopedic.

I used Scott Wolfe at HSS in NYC

    Good luck
