Ultrasound during a flare up

Has anyone had an ultrasound during a flare up?
I am booked for a llq ultrasound Friday to see if I have a hernia but I am having a flare up and I was wondering if anyone has had an ultrasound during a flare up and if so did it show your diverticulitis? I was reading in Europe they are more likely to diagnose diverticulitis with an ultrasound versus a ct scan here in North America. I hope this is true because I practically glow in the dark from all the radiation from the many cts I have had and would prefer not to have anymore. Just another thing, does it hurt? I would image yes as thinking of having the ultrasound wand run over inflamation would hurt.
Thanks in advance.

I know the contrast CT scan is the sure way to see the diver and find if anything else is happening. The ultrasound shouldnt hurt that much as wand is gliding on the gel and minimal pressure. Ive read it has been found this way but not sure how much they can see. Try and stay on liquid diet for a few days and very soft mushy until after your test.

I have had three ULtrasounds with contrast and I think a fourth without. I, however was not under the impression i may have a hernia, so I do not think doctors were necessarily looking for one. The test just showed inflammation- which was no surprise.

I was told to keep to a low residue diet until the pain stopped. Unfortunately that can be months for me. The dietitian finally told me how to eat after antibiotics and after not having antibiotics. A second opinion surgeon told me to eat through the pain or have it cut out. I try to eat healthy without eating foods that really cause me a lot of pain. I am probably malnourished by now. I just live with the pain because it is not that bad at all and if it gets bad I go on antibiotics. I wish I could help more.

i hope this helps, I take prednisone 20 mg as needed for inflamation. unfortunately this is only what I have been given to deal with the inflamation- which is not the best but it does help, and also I was prescribed medical marijuana. I do not enjoy smoking marijuana whatsoever, it does nothing euphoric for me, I actually loathe the feeling, but I will say it has definitely helped my symptoms. It was not the miracle drug everyone swore it would be, but it does help when things Flare up.
Entrec coated peppermint oil capsules also help. (again, forgive my spelling errors, this forum makes it impossible to type and spell correctly). The peppermint oil capsules must be entric coated because that coating allows it to be delivered and break down directly in the G.I. tract. It is basically what is in the over the counter medication I.B. Guard- but without the high pricetag for the name brand.
I have been dealing with these issues since 2002 on and off. Usually I get so frustrated with getting nowhere I just give up it is a vicious cycle. Those remedies, however, have at least made life tolerable.
Also, I was recently put on Lexapro 5 mg which is the lowest dose and ironically that has helped my G.I. issues. I did not have depression, and I am not happy to be on that medicine but it has helped.
Eurithromycin is an anti-biotic that helps with I BS as well, there is another antibiotic rifaximin - pardon me, I am not spelling them correctly. And AutoCorrect keeps on making my spelling and grammar worse.
Lastly, I have used diazepam (Valium) and dicyclomine (again pardon the spelling) for any cramping and or pain.
Motegrity is a new drug that has recently come out, it is unfortunately an SSRI, but it is used for gastrointestinal issues, primarily constipation.
I live in the United States, I am not sure where anyone else is from in this forum, so the medications may not be available in other countries. Hopefully this information at least helps a little bit. I truly feel for what everyone here is going through.

I'm sorry but what does that have to do with having an ultrasound during a flare? That is what I was asking about.
