Ultrasound Results

So I had my ultrasound last week, transabdominal and transvaginal. The results have now been uploaded to my patient records with the Doctor's surgery which I can view online (I do have an appointment this Friday though).
Both reports read the same, although the transvaginal report is marked as "borderline" and the transabdominal as "satisfactory". Under the section "What you need to do" both reports say "No further action".
Both reports say "The uterus is retroverted and enlarged. The endometrium contains multiple tiny cystic structures with loss of definition of the posterior myo-endometrial interface. The total endometrial thickness is approximately 24 mm. Appearances may represent endometrial hyperplasia however other pathology can not be excluded. Both ovaries appear within normal limits."
Does anyone have any idea what will happen now please? The "No further action" option seems strange as I have been bleeding continuously for 8 weeks now and in my option this is not an option! Any thoughts advice would be very much appreciated please.

I am not a doctor, but anytime I hear "no further action" I take that as good news. Also, really bad news (cancer) is typically not released on patient portals.

Hi there, I would take this as good news as well. No fibroids, nothing major showing. Having both of those tests done is pretty thorough usually most ladies just have one or the other test done.So now that pathology has been ruled out, I would look into hormonal imbalance which is not uncommon at this time. Usually the start of the month once our period starts estrogen starts to climb and progesterone starts to decrease, and then at ovulation progesterone starts to climb and estrogen starts to decrease so there may be an imbalance. Your doctor will want to meet with you to go over the results, but I bet he will suggest birth control pills, or HRT, or possible ablation, or IUD. I went through all that. I declined all of it and chose an alternative route.

Hi - just curious what alternative route did you take? I am trying to hold off on hormones for now.

Keep us updated!!! And keep up with your iron! My thickness is 22mm.. I mentioned in other thread I'm having D&C soon. Perhaps, the Dr will recommend one for you. But yes bleeding that long is horrible-- I'm sure you'll have the solution or options on Friday..

Last time I saw the Dr she said if my bloods showed I was anemic I should take iron. The blood results are normal (taken 2 week's ago) but since then the bleeding has increased so who knows if that's changed, or would it change in that short space of time? I have been taking Menopace for around 4 weeks which do contain iron but am wondering if I should take extra iron, what do you think?

I was told on my heavy days, that it is OK to take iron morning and night. So far so good, my levels have been ok. But sure, as long as your bleeding I would think it would be OK even if it's every other day.

I am going to start taking some iron, the Dr said my bloods were normal two week's ago but because I was bleeding heavily last week I could take some iron if my tummy could tolerate it.

Thank you all I am reassured! Will speak to the Dr on Friday and see what the options are going forward.

I think it's best to let your doctor explain and if you don't want to wait until friday call today and demand to at least speak to a nurse or PA.

Hello, Have you had a biopsy to rule out endometrial hyperplasia? I had a thickness of 22 mm so gynecologist did a biopsy for hyperplasia. That would be the next step. Again progesterone would most likely stop the bleeding or D&C or ablation.. Hugs.

Hi, did your biopsy show endometrial hyperplasia? I am being referred for a biopsy but it's a 6-8 week wait.

No, I did not have hyperplasia. I only stopped bleeding once i started on progesterone. After 3 months on a daily dosage, I had two more ultrasounds & endometrial lining was back to normal...under 6 mm (I think). For me, bleeding was the most worrying because you wonder when it will stop! If you continue bleeding and become out of breath then go to the doctor. I was so anemic & had so much loss of blood that i needed a transfusion.
What you are going through is exactly what I went through 2 yrs ago. My anxiety was through the roof. I too had to wait 4 wks to see a gyn so I worried everyday while continuing to bleed. One day I was crying to my family doctor and I begged him to give me a progesterone prescription. He sought the advice of an on-call gyn. at another hospital. Over the phone, he said this is common for my age. He gave me a low dose progesterone prescription to get me through until my appointment. i stopped heavy bleeding within 24 hours.
Everything will be ok. Get lots of rest, take iron, meditate...whatever you need to do.

Thank you! xx I am bleeding less for the last day or so which is good news after this time last week when it was horrendous. However, this has happened before so I'm not going to get too excited! I asked the Dr if it could suddenly stop and she said it was possible - I guess this makes sense because hormones must be all over the place. I will just take it one day at a time xx

In British Columbia, there is a Centre for Menstrual Cycles. There is a lot of information on perimenopause and managing heavy flow. The site is cemcor. ca.

I have seen the Dr today and she is referring me to gynae at the hopsital for a biopsy.
She says that she's not worried but as the scan showed cystic structures it needs to be checked out. If all ok she is suggesting a Mirena coil and possible HRT.
The only thing is that it's likely to be a 6-8 week wait for an appointment which I know in the grand scheme of things is not long, but as I've already been bleeding for 8 week it seems a very long time!
My iron levels were fine two week's ago but as the bleeding increased last week (it's back to normal now) she suggested I might like to take iron which I will do.
