Hi, I am new to this site . I went to my GP as I was having problems with my bladder when ever I finished and stood up there was a bit of a dribble. Also sometimes feel the urge to go again just after I have been. She sent me for an Ultrasound scan of my bladder which I had done yesterday. Today the receptionist at the GP surgery phoned me to say my doctor wants to have a phone consultation with me next Wednesday about my scan results. This has put me in a terrible worry , why, what have they found ,why didn't they tell me on the phone today I keep imaging the worst. I have to wait all over this Bank holiday weekend. Has anyone else had the same thing or can throw any light on this for me, Thanks in advance.

First and most importantly don't worry. It wont improve matters. If it was anything serious they would have called you immediately. Wait and see what your GP has to say. It doesn't sound serious to me as a lay person so relax and wait and see. I have just the opposite, I can't get anything out naturally and have to use a catheter up to 5 times a day.

I had an ultrasound for my bladder a couple of years ago.   They found a fibroid in my womb which was pressing on my bladder.  (mine is large)   Most women have fibroids. and unless they are causing you a lot of trouble they are left alone hoping that after the menopause (sorry I don't know your age) that they shrink.

I got used to mine.    I can live with having to spend another minute to get the little bit extra out when I go to the toilet.  However, I have very little, if any, leakage at other times.

I got another scan at hospital a few weeks ago.   I phoned Drs for my results and was told by receptionist that Dr wanted to speak to me on phone but I didn't need to come to surgery.   I presumed that meant it wasn't  urgent, as surely they would not make you wait then tell you really bad news over the phone, but I was still very worried.   My heart was beating really fast.   It is the fear of the unknown.  I spoke to my friends and found they felt the same and had been in tears waiting on results.

Receptionists aren't qualified to answer any questions you might have and that is why they make you  speak to Dr.    I was told nothing had changed. In fact it had gone down slightly and they didn't recommend doing anything unless I started to get pain from it.

You know something isn't quite right and, hopefully, the ultrasound  has shown what it is.  After all that's the reason we all go.  We hope they can fix it.     I would guess they have an idea what is causing it but it is not something that needs urgent immediate attention.   I was talking to a woman at hospital and she said she was called back within 2 days to have further tests.   She was very impressed with the quickness.

I'm not saying you have fibroid, I'm just giving you my example. I have  a friend and her symptoms are similar to yours and are caused by overactive bladder.  Another has similar symptoms and it is caused by weak muscle.   Same symptoms but different reasons.   I'm afraid us ladies are prone to these kind of problems.

Good luck.   So many of us know how you feel as we have been in the same position.

Hi Vicky thanks for your post. Well I am very happy to say that I too was found to have a fibroid pressing on the right side of my bladder. I am so happy that its nothing more serious. I have gone through the menopause so a bit of a shock I am 67.  They should be able to tell you results instead of having this wait which most people are so anxious, maybe same day appointment with your GP. Its so hard not to worry.

    Hi Marilyn,

First off, I know it isn't easy to relax with a matter like this, but you have to try to. I think if it was something super serious they wouldn't allow any time to be wasted before they told you. It could just be the doctor has some sort of follow through, on your part, and needs to explain it thoroughly. Some places don't feel it's professional to go over results on the phone and would rather have you come in. I know it's so easy to assume the worst, as it's our nature to do so. But, most of time it's nowhere close to that so make sure not to agonize. I wish you the best and make sure to keep us up to date!

Thanks for letting me know how you got on.   I had been thinking about you.    We have to worry about going to hospital then worry about the result.   It's so stressful and I too wish we got the results sooner.   I think I finished menopause about 8 years ago and I only found out about my fibroid 2 years ago as, like a lot of women, I didn't know I had it until it started to annoy me.

I looked up everything I could on the internet and I decided to change my diet.   I was guessing after 6 years all my eostrogen had gone but the fibroid hadn't disappeared with it.    2 years on after changing my diet my fibroid has gone down slightly.    I can't say for sure if changing diet was the reason but eating healthily helps all aspects of your body so I will continue.    I also try to ensure I have a good walk every day.   I read that exercise is good for them but I want to keep it gentle.     I find stress brings on a few pains.   I know people have different experiences of them, and some can be severe,  but I feel I have been lucky in that i've found a way at the moment to manage mine and I hope you are the same.

    Take care
