And constipation sometimes. Also as long as its not ruptered can I loose a ton of weight to solve the problem since I have a huge belly hangover

Hello Brandon,
So sorry to hear about your hernia. I have had hernias in the past. The first ones I had (2 of them) were abdominal incisional hernias, which are kind of similar to the umbilical hernia. They are in the abdominal area. I got my hernias repaired last year, and my surgeon used mesh to repair them. I have had no problems with the mesh, and it's been almost a year since the hernia repair.
To answer your question, YES, the hernia can cause lower and mid abdominal pain that come and go. For me, it was more of a constant pain, but the pain would really intensify at different times (severe abdominal pain), and I thought something else was going on with them. I was afraid they might rupture, although my surgeon didn't think that would happen. So when my hernia pain would really intensify, I would go to the emergency room, and they would do tests, x-rays, scans, etc. They could see the hernia, but there was basically nothing else causing my pain. It was solely the hernias. I had to wait awhile (the hernias cause me great pain for over a year), and I needed to lose weight. I lost a lot of weight, and then my surgeon was finally able to do my hernia repair. The surgery was an open surgery for me (not laparoscopic).
Also, I have had a very big struggle with constipation, and it was really bad during that time before I got my hernia surgery done.
From what I understand, hernias don't always cause the sever abdominal pain and bowel issues for some people, but for others (like myself), it can be sort of brutal.
Hope that helps and the best of luck to you..
