Umbilical Hernia - Post Operation - Deformed Belly & Sharp Plastic

Posted , 5 users are following.

Good afternoon,

I had a umbilical hernia operation on 09/01/20 and was advised the operation went smoothly, and no mesh was required due to the opening being under 2cm. 6 weeks on and I find myself with the below:

1.Belly button that looks totally different to originally

2.Significant hard tissue under the scar (forming a “ledge”)

3.A sharp piece of material internally below the belly (assume plastic)

Photos attached are original / after 3 days / after 2 weeks / after 5 weeks (x2)

Any advice regarding whether this is at all normal, and any potential grounds for recourse, would be much appreciated.

Neil

I would totally have it checked out . Not sure if an MRI or CT scan is best for checking on the plastic you're feeling. An ultrasound won't show it properly. When i had my umbilical mesh removed and fixed how yours should be fixed they cut around my belly button so it would stay the same shape, doesn't look like they did that for you.
