My guess is that the surgeon found something that he did not know about before he started working on you. Whatever he found may have been made him decide that he should open you up. I don't think yours is a very isolated case. Your problem may have looked simple but when he got in there he could have found something he was not counting on. Ask him what he found.

I had a hernia repair the dy after you.  My doctor said he would do it by keyhole surgery if he could but in the end it was more complicated than he thought so I had open surgery.

I have been told to rest for 2 weeks and then gradually get back to full strength.  But I had 2 hernias repaired and they also reinforced my inguinal ligament.  I have not had trouble with my wound so far but previous repairs have had some weaping from the wound, which I was told not to worry about.  My doctor told me to see my practice nurse if I had any concerns but I think you only need to worry if the wound will not stop bleeding.

As far as how I feel goes, I'm tiring very easily and also quite bored.  I have burning pain in my leg where the nerves were cut and some internal pain which was a lot worse yesterday when I tried to cut down on my painkillers.

Are your bowels opening ok?  If not then get some Senna.  Hope this helps

I just had mine laparoscopicly 6 days ago. When the doctor went in, there were adhessions that complicated things - I had to remain in the hospital for a couple days. They now have me wearing an abdominal binder. At first it was painful attaching it, but wearing it was fine. It's really helped with supporting the area, wonder if this is something you could use.
