Unable to urinate, just trickle, trickle, going out of my mind with worry

Hi,

Has this ever happened to any one of you who had trouble urinating and was a bit constipated? I'm concerned especially about have trouble urinating. No matter how much I drink, it's just trickle, trickle. Has anyone experienced this problem and what you did to rectify it? I've had LS for 6 years and started using clob, premarin, and borax on off clob days. I've just been to the Vulva Clinic here but this was before I had this trouble. She said I should be concerned about my clitoris as there was a bit of white on it. Could this be the problem? I looked to see if the urethra is ok and it is open. There's nothing blocking it. Could the constipation be the cause. What an awful disease.

I think I would see your doctor because it doesn't sound like a typical symptom of LS, I also thought UTI, so that's what I would recommend you do first.

Thanks for your reply Guppy. Good suggestion. That's exactly what I did this morning. I didn't go to my doctor because I don't have one at the moment, but I went to a Clinic. It's called Urgent Care Clinic. According to the doctor, first of all, if you're constipated what can happen is that there's too much pressure and it can restrict the flow. I've been constipated before though and that's never happened but it did this time. I can say too thank god for the Internet, because I read that if you take a laxative or stool softener and have a good bowel movement, that it will help you urinate and that's what I did last night. I was worried and didn't sleep a wink so at 4:00 in the morning I had a bowel movement and sure enough it did help and then I had another one a little later and it started to come back but far from normal. It wasn't fully back until I was at the Clinic and at the end was asked to produce a specimen. I was skeptical I could but to my surprise I nearly filled it. That's when I knew it was back. But it took a long time to come back very slowly. They wanted to make sure there was no infection which there wasn't. So I was very relieved.

As for the white on my clitoris, he checked and he said everything was good and there wasn't any white there. I had put some clob on it and rubbed it gently just 3-4 times and I guess that did it. I did this without knowing if it was ok to use clob on the clitoris and he said it's ok there and also on the perineum if it needs it. I've been getting little stings in my breasts, especially the right one where I got an infection in it 39 years ago, so I'm going to cut down on the premarin cream. The doctor at the Vulva Clinic has told me to add 2 days of it on the outside because I am very dry, but I think I'll use Emu Oil or Coconut Oil instead.

I told him that I soak in a full bath of warm water with 1/4 cup Borax which did leave me a bit red this time and he said it's better to use Epsom salt, or baking soda, or saline. He said the borax is too strong.

So, I was going to conclude by saying just what you said. If you're worried about something, go find out and put your mind at ease, but don't stay alone worrying about it. Even if you don't have a doctor or can't get an appointment soon enough with your doctor, there are walk-in clinics with excellent doctors who can treat you.

Thank you for your replies everyone.

      Stay safe and take care.

Just to update. I've had trouble urinating again. I thought it was ok but it came back. This time there was nothing flowing, not even a trickle like before. Searching for answers, I just read on this site that LS may not necessarily affect urination but the treatment may. It so happens that last night was my night to apply clob. I then couldn't urinate from midnight until 2:00 p.m. today (which is not normal for me) even after drinking 2 large glasses of water. I decided to try to calm down and take a bath in 1/4 cup up borax for 20 mins. Not sure if that's what did it, but after I did urinate but a very small amount. Although I'm not 100% sure, it very well may be the clobetasol that's doing it. If there are people out there who have experienced this, I'd love to hear from them. I had asked the doctor at the Vulva clinic on Nov 2 if I could apply clob twice a week instead of 3 times a week and she said point blank "no" with no explanation. I have an appointment on Dec 5 with a new GP and it can't come soon enough. Maybe I should just go to twice a week on my own, but I have this problem of fear I guess. I know I can't get a medical reply to this here, but just want to know if anyone else has this problem.

I'm familiar with the problem.  It was the fusing that extended this far.  A dilation procedure was done.  Afterwards I used baking soda baths and rinses as to avoid possible infection and discovered that the fusing sort of melted away with the regular use of baking soda.  The last part disappeared with the use of borax.  To tell you that it might have been the borax bath you took that made the difference.  Repeating this might help you further.

Hi, Have you really had a good look at your undercarriage with a mirror?  Is it almost closed up?  Because if it is it sounds like you have the same problem that Hanny has and she had to have a dilation procedure and from what I can gather a lot of work to get the area opened up more.

If your undercarriage is still 'open' then your looking at a different problem and thats where you need professional help.  I hope this new doctor knows his stuff as it must be very upsetting for you.  Let us know how you get on.

Hanny....How are you?  It has been a while..are you doing good?

Thanks for your reply Hanny. This can be so frightening not being able to urinate, and also not knowing what exactly is causing it. The odd thing is although I've shrunk quite a bit, I'm still open and can take the largest dilator. So, the opening is there and hasn't changed. And I can see the urethra hole but I find I have to pull everything up to see it. Don't know if that's normal or not. I noticed there was a bit of white near the clitoris and also what looked like two bands of white running down each side of the urethra inside what they call the vestibule or butterfly, and that practically disappeared with the borax. Anyway, that made me relax a bit. For sure, I'm going to continue using he borax. I want to start using the baking soda rinses like you're doing. Just not sure of the portions. Not sure if I could find the portions in the thread, but I'll try. Thanks Hanny. Please bear me. I may come back.

Micheline, perhaps this helps as well:  I put three pinches of baking soda or borax in a Perin bottle after urination, and for the baths I use 1/3 baking soda for a full bath, or a little over 1/6th of a cup borax in a full bath.

Hi Guppy, I'm doing well. Just keeping up with my routine.

      Thanks Hanny,

I've taken note of this. I just googled and found out I can get a Perin bottle on Amazon which I'll buy. It's 12 oz, so I can substitute until it arrives. I've taken note of the baths also. Thanks Hanny. See an explanation to Guppy that maybe it's my thyroid.

Oh yes I look incessantly, which is something I should have been doing in the past years. I was diagnosed and told I've had this beastly thing for 5 years. I wasn't going with anyone, so didn't bother looking at myself. Why should I? Anyway, now I know why I should have been. It could have been caught much earlier. No it's open, so it's possible it's a different problem.

I've looked up Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, but don't have the symptoms and also prolapse and doesn't look like it. The one thing that was done lately is my thyroid dosage was reduced, and looking online I've discovered that it is related unless it's something else. Apparently the bladder hormones are akin to the thyroid hormones. Lower dose equals lower flow. But this is just conjecture at this point. You're right, I need to see a doctor. Dec 5 is not coming up fast enough. In the meantime, I needed support which I found here with the valuable help of you guys. Thank you. Oh I may come back if I get scared again.

      Hi Everyone, Hanny, Guppy,

As an update, I went to meet my new doctor on Dec 5. She is very young and because she's only starting practicing, we spent all the time going over all my medical issues, which didn't leave much time for LS. She did say to continue with the meds (clob, etc.) for the little white near the clitoris. This appears and goes away and reappears. She said she'd see me in a year, and if I have any issues in the meantime, I can call her office for an appointment. I asked to see a dermatologist, but she said they would just prescribe the same thing. She gave me a paper for blood work for my thyroid for January 8, so if it's still off, they will call me. I just feel left alone to cope with this, except for the support I get here.

I'm still not urinating right at times, but at least, it's not 3 days straight. That was scary. I have to make sure I drink enough water. It is very weird. When I do have trouble, it almost feels like I'm very swollen down there which stops a good flow from happening. One night it almost felt normal and I actually could feel everything when urinating. Otherwise, although I can urinate, it's like I can't feel it coming out. I don't know what's causing that. Could it be the LS? Inflammation? Is it the steroid doing something to my tissues? I wish I knew. As long as I can urinate some every day dear god. Now, I have to wait for my urologist appointment on January 18. Maybe I'll get some answers there. I hope so. Don't know what else to do.

Hanny, I have a question for you. After you rinse with the baking soda or borax, do you apply coconut oil right away after or do you have to wait and if you do, how long?

Thanks to all of you so much for your support. I will report back as soon as I know something.

Hi there.  I have a hunch that you will get your answers when you see your urologist in January.  I hope it goes well for you..make sure you write down exactly what you need to say, as sometimes it is easy to leave an appointment without letting them know how worried and frightened you are.  It is important to come away with some answers, or another referral to someone who can help you.

Let us know how that goes.

      Hi Guppy,

Hopefully I will. I am hoping that she knows something about LS, because it will complicate things if she doesn't. Am I hoping for too much? Well, we'll see. The new GP was not much help. I forgot to mention in my update that I did mention to her about the 3 days of trouble urinating but no reaction, so yes the urologist would be the best to see. Will report back from that appointment in case other people have that trouble also.

So thankful for this support. Don't know what I'd do without it.

      Thank you so much.

      Hi Guppy,

I am reporting back like I said I would. The good news is that after going through a cystoscopy (camera), my urologist told me my bladder and urethra are ok and there's no blockage anywhere. To my question whether this was caused by LS, she said no, and that it could be a weak bladder. So, in a way, I'm back to square one not knowing the why, but I am really happy that everything is ok. I still think it has to do with LS fusing and inflammation, but at this point, it's only my own opinion. I'm still  experiencing this phenomena, but only at times, so I guess I'm resigned to it as there's nothing more I can do about it.

What else I'm experiencing is constant gas, and I don't know what is causing it. I read someone else is experiencing this. I also have itching at my neck but that seems to have subsided.

The lesson that I've learned here from going to the specialist is that it's better to take the necessary steps to find out what it is than linger and worry about it.

This is for Hanny. I got a perineal bottle and tried using the rinses with baking soda after voiding but had to stop because my labia minora were turning black again. Not sure if it's a reaction between the baking soda and Emu oil that I apply right after. So, right now I'm confused about this. I'm reduced right now to using only the Clob, and Premarin and Emu oil. I will go back to the borax again at some time to see if I can use it.

Thank you all for your support.
