Unbearable deep ache/cramp in centre of chest

Hi,

This has been ongoing for quite a few years but only happens rarely, maybe every couple of months. When it happens it is utterly excruciating. The pain comes in waves ranging from a dull background pain to so intense i want to cry. An attack might last for an hour or two, and come and go over a period of 1-2 days.

The pain is like an ache or a cramp or inflammation, in the middle of the chest right behind the breast bone. It feels deep if that makes any sense. It is not a sharp or stabbing pain. It doesn't affect breathing or swallowing. Its not a burning like indigestion. The closest thing i can compare it to is reverse peristalsis (when you eat too fast and the throat muscles spasm) although its a bit lower down and not that similar, just the only other thing I can think of. I've had all the heart tests done to rule out anything there.

I've found it very hard to find anything online but a couple of things that maybe fit the bill are inflammation of the lining of the diaphragm or a nerve condition that causes muscle spasms in the esophagus.

My GP doesn’t have any answers. I really need to find out what’s going on because it’s really unbearable when it happens.

Please tell me I’m not the only one!

Thanks
