Uncommon costo symptoms

Posted , 57 users are following.

Costochondritis is unfortunately, not widely known or discussed and I've got more information from here than my gp.

Although I'm lucky to say I'm 80-90% healed, I've reached a plateau.

I wanted to share some of the less common symptoms I've experienced in my healing process for those who may be scared/confused:

Dizziness

Head pressure on the side of inflammation

(possibly led to a slowing down of the movement in left eye, I now wear glasses to refocus, never had eye issues before)

Headaches

Swollen neck

Tightness in neck

Swollen shoulder muscles

Back pain in the middle of back

Inability to eat

Feeling physically full after half a meal but still hungry

Stomach pain

Burning sensation in muscles

Tingling sensation in muscles

Strange sinking feeling when breathing, comparable to the stomach drop you get in fear/on a rollercoaster or similar but it's more muscular/physical

Sensation of muscles suddenly "deflating" when falling asleep - possibly anxiety related as well

Constant palpitations

Fatigue

Tiredness

Generally weak

Arm pain on side of inflammation

Feeling like I can't breathe

Difficulty walking at speed - who knew swaying arms could be so painful?!

Feeling fine all day but swelling up when you lie down to sleep

Sinus pressure

BONUS: For those who have overcome the majority of the pain

general discomfort/awareness/heaviness/tightness of the affected areas

Feel free to share your uncommon/less discussed symptoms

I get that too!! All left side as well which makes it worse. I've been back and forth to doctors for cardiac tests for over a year 😔 It can definitely take over your life if you let it. The thought of putting up with this for the rest of my life massively annoys me though! Just have to remember not life threatening and get on with it smile

Hello I too am having cardiac test . Which have you done ? And what are doctors saying about the condition ?

Hi Simone, I've had numerous ECGs, echogram and my bloods done. All come back as negative, I was diagnosed with Tietze as my chest wall is so painful to touch and my cartilage on my ribs is swollen. Pain comes and goes and symptoms can differ on each return. If you're finding your chest is painful to touch it's probably a lot more likely to be this condition and not cardiac. Hope this helps!

Hello yes I have had numerous ekg and have an echo scheduled for Friday . It's sore touch the sternum and when I press it there is a sinking feeling like when you go on a roller coaster ride and your stomach drops excepts it's the dropping feeling when pressed on the sternum . I ordered a back pod . I will privately email you about this .

Have you tried arnica gel? I use soft cold ice packs all day long. They really help me. Or a TENS unit?  So glad for this site. So we can all share our stories nad help each other. Wud be great if the drs cud find a cure!!!!!!

Not so much anymore but yes, at one point my whole chest and upper left arm were tingling. Scared me enough to take myself to A&E but turned out to be my costo made worse my by anxiety sad

I hope you don't ever experience the weird burning/tingling muscle feeling, it's so odd! But if you do, don't worry, it's all part of the weird side of costo.

That's interesting, I developed a tingling in lower legs which only comes on when I'm slightly cold - when I say slightly I mean slightly, as in anything where there's a slight breeze or I'm not totally warm.

I went through the motions of thinking it was diabetes - although I've had blood tests and never showed signs of being pre-diabetic/having abnormal sugar levels - and then I just put it down to anxiety because I had started a new job at the time.

I'm wondering now if it may be costo related...
