Undecided about THR

Posted , 10 users are following.

57 years of age and recently diagnosed with arthritic hip. Have had the condition for many years. Range of movement is an issue with difficulty with shoe laces, socks, nail cutting etc. Pain and mobility has been variable and have experienced stiffness when driving, sitting sleeping and dull pain when sleeping.Riding a bike is uncomfortable at the top of the stroke. Have stopped running in the lsat 2 years. I now have a windoe of opprtunity to have surgery but the strange thing is my condition feels better now than it has in the last few years. Should I wait and see what happens or should I get a condition that ultimareley will not improve sorted out while I can?

Well the THR happened this morning at 7:45. For anyone with an upcoming appointment I would just like to say please try not to worry. Stayed awake with just a couple of sleeping tabs and can honestly say felt nothing but a little tugging with a body that didn' feel like it belonged to me. When I get access to my laptop I will post a more detailed account as I have learned some useful info. Regards and best wishes.

Well here I am 24 hours post OP, all drips removed and just got myself out of bed walked round the room with a frame and now sitting in a chair. No mention of the 90 degree rule until I asked about it. Physio says just to be careful, if it hurts too much or doesn't feel right don't do it. Waiting for lunch then its crutches and stairs. Progress has exceeded my expectations so far but well aware there's a way to go yet. Considering that I didn't think my hip was too bad compared to some of your stories and I struggled to justify having it done at this stage I can already see that movement alone is going to be much better.

    Hi ajh193

That is great news that you are feeling so well so soon

I am surprised about the 90 degree rule but never mind just be careful

Knowing hospitals someone will come along and tell you something different  LOL
