under rib pain and itching...help

Hi,

I have had a pain on my right side just about under the rib cage for over a year now.  I have had multiple tests, blood, MRI, ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy even a hyda scan... I am at my witts end. I do not know what to do, teh pain is not strong it is a dull pain... sometimes it hurts more than others, i have tried many diffrent thigs, sometimes teh pain is like a strong itch on the side of my belly buttob, it;s just weird and I have seen 3 diffrent GI's no one seems to believe me because nothing shows up on tests... I know the pain is real, it's not in my head... I do not feel like my husband believes me anymore..teh pain is daily, not strong enough to keep me up at night but as soon as i am up i feel it..it's there...always on te same spot, aside when there is an itch... I have normal bowel movements, i am not overweight nor under, I probably could be a bit healthier, I have cut all sorts of foods thinking that maybe it was allergies..I just do not see what it is.. I do not know what to do, I am worried that we find something once it's too late..

Also, I do not take any type of meds regurlarly, aside for the tylenol here and there when i have a headache... I do not smoke, nor drink..

I need somebody to help me and BELIEVE ME!

Has your doctor suggested any diagnosis?  Have you had a stool test for h pylori and a celiac test?  Has your pain ever moved about your stomach and have your normsl bowel movements ever changed?  Ask about IBS because if all scans are clear, IBS can be confirmed.  Anxiety about your symtoms is very common with IBS.  I began with stomach pain that moved about and changes in bowel habit with nausea.  I had chronic fears that I had something serious that had been misssed and it was too late for anything to be done.  But I was diagnosed with IBS.

Philippa, thank you for response. The pain does not move, I do have nausea though, but the nausea is due to anxiety. I was checked for H pilory that came back negative. no celiac test, but I will ask my doctor to get me tested.

I assume that they checked your gallbladder. And that's the only thing that came to my mind. But other then that, I want you to know that I believe you hurt. I too suffer from chronic pain and I know what it is like to hurt. But to not know why is very scary. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

They checked my gallbladder with an ultrasound and nothing showed up. Urine, celiac and stool tests were also negative so I was diagnosed with IBS.  However, the pain is a lot better than last year because I am not stressing about my health.  Thanks for your prayers.  God bless you too.

    Sonogo,

Hi my name is Eva, and my question is since they've tested you with all kinds of test to try to see what is going on with you, have you had blood tests for different things that may show up in your blood?  For instance have they done a CBC, CHEM 7, etc... Checked on your liver enzimes and stuff to that sort. There are so many different things that would show up in blood work, so if you haven't yet have your doctor check your blood and have him check for everything that way maybe you'll get some answers. I wish you all the best and please keep us informed on how you are doing and what your diagnosis is once you get one. Praying for you so God Bless and be strong... It is hard when you know that you have pain and doctors, family, and friends look at you like your crazy or something but only we & God know how we feel, so hang in there...

Thank you Eva, I have had blood work but I honestly do not know what type, but I think you are right and I am going to be checking with my doctor what blood work was done, I have had 2 times blood drawn by different doctors and they said nothing was showing up, but I do not know what they ere looking for. Thank you for your prayers, it conforts me, I have been just so worried about all of this for now a year and few months that I cannot bottke it up any longer, I feel so down and so unlike myself.  I apreciate people's kindness.

      Sonogo,

i know what it is like to be telling someone something about how you feel and it's like their not listening to you especially doctors you will tell them about pain your having or a new symptom that your having and they quickly forget about the symptoms you had to start with it's like they don't exist anymore that is my situation I fell and doctors said I had a fracture in my wrist/thumb area and when sent to Hand specialist he said no fracture, said fall caused an Arthritic Episode, then it was he thought I had Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, and now since I had a nerve conduction study done now he thinks I have what's called Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and he said that wasn't caused by the fall and that he could do surgery but it would have to be on my insurance because the workers comp people would never accept that the fall caused it. He said this because I had pain radiate across my wrist and up my arm, and I told him well I don't know what they will think but I didn't have this pain running up my arm until I had the fall, it's like everyday it's something new and things are getting worse and they started getting worse since the doctor gave me a cortisone injection I don't know if he did something or what but it sure felt like he hit something when he gave me the injection and the way it's looking my arm and hand will never be the same again because I am going to be disabled with all the crap that I've went through waiting on a definitive diagnosis. I believe the frist doctors was right and I don't know what kind of damage that could've been done with him not doing something about the break that I had but he's said from day 1 that it wasn't a break so how can you explain what is going on with me now and he said it was just coincidental that this happened to my arm and I see nothing coincidental about my arm having these reactions after the fact that all this started in my hand first. He didn't even say anything about my hand and I ask him what about my hand it's like he has completely forgot about my hand he's just worried about my arm now and I ask him if he's ever had his hand slammed in a door and he shook his head and I said what about a finger then he shook his head yes and I told him that's the way my hand feels all the time but he didn't offer to do anything about the hand he put me on Neurontin 300mg and said start with one a day then get up to two and then three as tolerated so he's treating the nerve pain in my arm which I'm assuming that's what is going on but what about my hand feeling like it's going to fall off but hey who cares about the hand we have a new symptom that's how it seems to me have you ever experienced this before from a doctor ? I'm so stressed and  confused that I don't know what to do anymore... I do hope you find answers though please keep me informed because I know how these doctors can be when you need the truth. I'm waiting until my second opinion before I do anything. I want to know if my hand is connected to my arm situation and I don't think he is the right one to tell me anything I need a whole other doctor... Pray for me and i will pray for you we need all the help for each other we can get...

      Sonogo,

I'm sorry I rambled so much earlier, I just get so frustrated that Doctors take their time, like they don't realize we're in pain and just want answers. Forgive me for being so lengthy. I hope you get relief soon. God Bless You.

      Eva,

I am so sorry this is happening to you, my goodness why on earth do we need doctors if they cannot at least take the time to listen to us? I feel awful about your situation with you hand and arm and i truly hope this will be resolve soon, it seems thought that it is getting worse and you are not able to get a straight answer nor a ggod doctor that listening and remembering what he has seen you for.  I must say, my doctor refused to see me when i had teh pain that was just really bad he did not even want to see me in the lobby, i just want hi to guide me on what to do, he told me that if my GI could not see anything neither coud he...Which , in a sense yes, it was true but as a family doctor I needed him to guide me on what to do next or whom to see..help me to find a solution... The worse about all of this ordeal is as you say knowing that we are in pain and no one else does... I will pray for your recovery too Eva.  And no you were not rambling, sometimes we need to hear other stories so we do not think that all the miseries of the world are on us... I have a tendency to feel sorry for myself, I truly shouldn't feel this way as there is so many other people so much worse than me and so much stronger. Thank you for sharing your story Eva.

      Sonogo,

Thank you, I needed that and I appreciate you taking the time to write to me, you know the feeling I'm going through and sometimes it seems like no one wants to even hear my voice, I was told that today at work when someone ask me a question and I was answering and one of the girls that work where I'm at in the morning ask me not to do that today that she had enough problems of her own and I just told her you don't have to worry about hearing me today sorry I bothered you with my talking, hey but that's okay I don't need to talk to her to do my job and that's fine. As for you as you say your family doctor should be more than willing to help you to get on the right track, I don't know why they have to be the way some of them are but you know that's their loss, because I know we are good people and I can tell that you have a big Heart probably as big as the world and I appreciate you and I wish I could help you because I surely would. I hope everything goes okay with what's going on with you and please do keep updated because your words are comforting and I hope all is well for you very soon. God Bless...

oh no ! I am sorry , people can be so cruel sometimes. I do not understand why someone would just think it is ok to say my problems are just bigger than yours so please do not say anything..wow. I am amazed. I hope you feel better soon for sure Eva.

I today not my best day, as I have been in a stronger pain lately, probably a flair up from whaetver I have that no doctor cares to help...I hoping that by tomorrow or next day it will calm down... I had a hgreat week last week,  thought things were getting better...what a bummer!

I always ask for a copy of my test results from blood work done. I've never had a doctor refuse. I figure I paid for it, I deserve a copy of it.

      amkoffee,

You are right we have the right to any medical records from test being done on us. they should automatically give us results from everything we have done.

Amkoffee, you are right, I will ask for it too. Thank you for the tip, I did not think of it.

      amkoffee,

Your more than welcome, it's just so awful that we sit in pain and are confused sometimes about why this is happening and then doctors don't even care enough to get back with us and give us some kind of answer. I'm sorry that I'm jsut now getting back to you on your reply, I have been having issues or I would usually try to check in daily and reply as soon as possible but last week and this week have been totally shot. I had to go through the ER last Wednesday I had an episode where the pain has traveled to my shoulder and I didn't know what in the world was going on. I had dislocated my shoulder back in March or April but that had got better because I had my Chiropractor put it back in place and as it turns out when you dislocate your shoulder, you are then left vulnerable to injury once it's been dislocated once. They took x-rays of my shoulder when I went through Emergency Room and they ask had I ever dislocated my shoulder and of course I told them yes I did and told them when and the doctor told me it's easy to injure once you do this so they said it was either Arthritis set in my shoulder or I had tendinitis/bursitis, or my tendon's have damage around my rotator cuff so I don't know what all will have to be done once I finally get to the bottom of this whole hand thing. I ask him could it have been caused from the fall and he said it was possible and told me to make sure when I go to the second opinion doctor that I let him know about the whole shoulder thing that  have going on well that was last week this week it's something new I now have another symptom to add to the rest of my misery and that is swelling my hand and arm all the way up through my shoulder is swollen and hurting me now and I didn't go to work yesterday or today, I called the doctor that I have been seeing up and talked to a nurse and she was supposed to talk to the doctor and get back with me and I haven't heard anything yet so at that office they have a patient portal so you can send messages direct so I sent him a message a few minutes ago and maybe I will actually have someone get back with me on that today. I am wondering since this doctor never saw a fracture if with everything that has went on I'm wondering if the fracture has displaces because of all the different ways I've been told to use or not use my hand. This is all just awful because I feel like my hands are tied because you have workers comp people telling you what you  can do and when so the only alternative I have when it gets bad if he doesn't see me is for me to go through the Emergency Room can't just go to a doctor of choice because Insurance won't pay it if your under workers compensation for a particular injury so I'm pretty much screwed... I hope things are better with you now and you are getting some relief, sorry about the venting just need to do it sometimes it helps to get out. Let me know how you are and what's been going on lately. God Bless...

Oh Eva what your going thru sounds just awful. I just can't imagine a doctor not getting back with you within 24 hours. My doctor always calls me back the very day I call unless I call very late in the day and then they call me back then they call the next morning. But then I'm very lucky to have a very good GP. I've even had the doctor himself call me in the morning before seeing patients if I have a problem. That way he can ask me questions and we can discuss issues. I have to admit it's kind of scary when your doctor calls you directly. But as far as your arm and shoulder are concerned it certainly sounds like it's broken and not just out of socket. My doctor takes an x-ray and looks at it and determines if it's broken or not but then to be sure he sends it to a radiologist to double check his work. That way if he missed something he can call you back and tell you. Because one time my son broke his hand when he punched a brick wall. And the emergency room initially said it was not broken but then called back later and said the radiologist found a fracture in the hand and to go to my doctor and have it fixed. I wonder if your doctor ever does that. Please don't feel like you have to respond to this comment. I realize with one bad arm it must be very difficult to type.

      amkoffee,

This doctor that I go to is the doctor from a list of approved doctors on a panel for my workers compensation, I just radomly picked him outta the 3 that they had because I didn't know any of them. I finally got a call back since posting this morning and he said he couldn't see me or give me an excuse because it didn't have anything to do with my hand initially is what the nurse told me and I told her that I don't see why it didn't have anything to do with my hand that my hand was swollen and that I was doing the Ibuprophen/Benadryl for the swelling and taking the pain medication to help with the  pain but she said well he's already wrote you out several times and I told her no he hasn't wrote me outta work several times I said the whole time he's been seeing me and that's from the 12 day of July that he has wrote me out 1 time. They really know how to get on your nerves I know that much. He had told me that with my arm pain that he could see me under my insurance because workers comp wouldn't consider that to have anything to do with my hand and I told him that it was funny before I fell at work I didn't have any problems with my arm and now that I have it started in my hand and has continuously worked it's way up my arm. He wants to do surgery on my nerve at my elbow but wants to use my insurance because he doesn't think that workers comp will cover it so I really don't know what to think about him since my hand is still bothering me and it hurts now worse than it did the day I went to the doctor initially after I fell which was the next day it feels way worse now the palm of my hand is so sort and out of whack that i can't hardly stand to touch it and the way I sleep is awful I keep my good arm over that one protecting it from anything and everything and he can't write me something where I was outta work because it has nothing to do with my initial injury he's crazy, this is all over the injury to my hand. I'll be so glad when I get to go see the second opinion doctor. I have heard if you see a second opinion doctor then they give their opinion and the initial one that you started seeing is the one that takes care of the surgery well I tell you one thing he won't be taking care of this old girl, I don't want him touching me he really burnt a bridge with me today saying he couldn't do anything but to tell me to keep doing what I was doing which was keeping it elevated. I know that much because I work in the medical field and he should know that I know this, I told his nurse that I am also taking Ibuprophen/Benadryl combination as I know this helps with the swelling and doing ice packs and keeping it elevated so I don't  want anymore of his help, I told her I would go through the ER if I had to. He won't have to worry with me anymore I promise him that...
