Underactive Thyroid

Hi,

I am really confused as to what is going on with my Thyroid Levels, I went for a blood test earlier this year and was told my thyroid levels had dropped very low, and that I should increase my thyroxine to 125 from 100mg, then I went for another blood test to be told I should reduce it to 75mg, even though I do not feel great with weight gain and depression, can reducing my medication help me lose the weight ?

    Hi Reddc

The TSH can fluctuate daily. One day says one thing, next day says another. bloods should usually be done at the same time. so for example, you get bloods drawn at 12 noon, the next time you get bloods should be done at the same time. If you do not take your medication consistently at the same time, or near enough, that can cause a fluctuation. or if you are feeling unwell, or if perhaps you ate something that the thyroid does not like, like brassicas, gluten, or soy, even dairy. The list goes on. Could be the brand or type of thyroid medication as well. Levothyroxine verse eltroxin etc...

I have to demand that more than my TSH is tested which is so wrong when particularly already diagnosed with hypothyroid

When getting your bloods done for your thyroid makes sure you ask for you FT3, FT4, B12, Iodine, cholesterol.

Reducing the prescription will have little say in the weight gain or weight loss.(edit: you will but on the hand you will feel worse). That is all about a balance, with your prescription, diet and exercise. I destroyed myself with high intensity exercise-cross fit . One day i excercise, next day i stretch, next day a walk, next day maybe a cycle.

it is all about a delicate balance that can take a long time to get there. lots on the internet. Herbalist has been the most help and the nutritionalist for me.

Carbohydrates help with blood issues and heart rate, and take your vitamins.
