Underwear and colder winter months?

Posted , 6 users are following.

For a while now, having LS, I have been on a search for comfortable cotton undies. There are just not that many around! So most the time I do not wear undies it's just easier. (I have thought of looking in the mens dept. for comfy cotton shorts).

I find it easier in the summer months in the UK to go without, but for me the worry is in the winter months. I am originally from South Africa so I tend to grab the thermals and also fleecy pants. The cold is hectic for me. My question is regards what to wear in the winter months? Surely all this thermal and lower body layering is not good? I wish I could wear skirts in winter, maybe there are some tips from ladies who are used to cold weather and dealing with irritation from LS?

Also is 'technical material' good for us. I know cotton is. Sometimes when I walk now I use my gym clothes because they are made from technical material but have no idea if this is the way to go. (Sorry) there are probably three questions in one here! Thanks for your time.

    Hi Calliann,

I looked for years for comfortable undies, found them at last, I got them from amazon, the make is La Marquise, pure cotton knickers, the fit like a dream do not move or rub, so no irritation. Hope they work for you too . Jo

I find good cotton underwear in Marks & S in the UK, 2 sizes or so too big, to allow for shrinkage and air circulation. You can get them in packets of five very reasonably. Make sure they are the "pure" cotton ones though and don't have any nylon in them.

'Technical material' – polyester? No-no. Might as well wear pantyhose or a plastic bag. In the winter (Canada) I've been enjoying cozy cotton leggings under 100% wool pants. Also loose men's wide-wale corduroy ('professor pants'). You'd be amazed what you can find in the second hand store. Speaking here as a semi-retired/work-from-home person, so I can be in Full Frump most days.

I don't fully understand technical material myself. However, it is the stuff you work out in and is supposed to move sweat away from the skin. I will perhaps do more research and give feedback on that. I so understand the frump look!!

Jockey has a comfortable cotton pantie. Look for the one that has the cotton covering the waist band and leg bands...so the elastic doesn't rub against skin.  I wash them and do a final rinse with distilled vinegar in the water to get all the soap residue out.  There are also several brands of organic cotton panties out there...but the price may be too much for some.
