Unexplained hand pain, fed up!!

I started experiencing hand and wrist pain in November 15. The pain is exacerbated by using it, gripping, holding well basically using it. I am using a splint at all times as I am in too much pain without it, I can't move it in any direction. I have swelling on both sides of the wrist and my hand looks mis shapen. Blood tests were normal, X-rays show chondral sclerosis?

My arm and hand both look like they have muscle wasting, thus occurred before the pain.

I am booked to have a nerve conduction tests and Mri  Arthogram to ascertain what the cause is.

There me may be information I have missed, I am happy to supply this if needed.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing the pain?

I hope your able to find a reason behind it. Let us know what the doc. Says curious as to what they find. Best of luck Jmac

      Hi JMac

I've been told it's not carpel tunnel or de Quvervains tenosynovitis.

I fractured the same wrist in 1997, wondering whether I have developed arthritis?

Hi, I don't know about your particular condition, I just looked it up, and saw that at least part of it is osteoarthritis and it is unfortunately chronic and painful. Looks like there is all kinds of physical therapy involved, I didn't see anything about surgery.  One thing that I did see was a suggestion to Supplement your diet with glucosamine, condroiton and methylsulfonylmethane. I never heard of that last thing, but I would suggest going to a vitamin store and asking about it.  In the meantime, you could try an over the counter creme called aspercreme or get a prescription for lidocaine creme which has been surprising effective for me for some of the pain I have in my leg and my back.  Good luck to you!

I was going to say CTS but that's been ruled out I've it and it's very painful any other numbness and tingling ?

I sometimes get tingling in my thumb and occasionally my fingers. That doesn't happen that often.

i think the blood tests would have turned up arthritis. did they check your thyroid?  I also read a lot about tendinitis. Did they check for fluid build up? Is it your dominant hand? I think you should follow up on treatment for the subchondral sclerosis diagnosis, which is a form of osteoarthritis. They'll probably start you out on anti=inflammatories. Let us know what you do.

    Take care.

I think my GP tested for RA, all bloods came back clear. Not sure about fluid build up and it's not my dominant hand.

I should know more when I have the tests.

Thanks for the kind words 😀
