Unexplained parasitical-like symptoms

Trying to find out if anyone has experienced the same symptoms that I’m having, and, if so, what might be causing them.
I am a male, just short of 60 years old…
In 2005, I began experiencing NIGHTLY DISTURBANCES in my chest area, perhaps as low as the abdomen and ranging up to the upper chest. I became aware of these disturbances as in some cases they would wake me up. It seemed as though there was something active, or literally moving around under my skin or somewhere below the surface. These disturbances have persisted and have affected my sleep for years.
A few of points:
They are NOT particularly painful, but ARE disturbing.
They don’t seem to be related to any kind of acid-reflux or other more common indigestion problems.
They seem to be “triggered” by sleep somehow, potentially being able to sense when I’m asleep – as soon as I wake up they quiet down or become inactive. This is the primary way in which I have detected them.
I went through an elaborate diagnosis process with multiple specialists, and over the course of a number of years, took a regimen of various medications that helped mitigate and in some cases cure digestive problems. The nightly disturbance symptoms have persisted throughout.
None of the experts that I’ve seen can identify anything specific that fits these symptoms – having been to multiple infectious disease, parasite and GI specialists over the years.
I suspect that the symptoms are somehow parasite-related. I had visited India, the Caribbean and parts of the Pacific/Oceana prior to the symptoms occurring.
I experienced a one-time weight-gain of about thirty pounds at some point after the symptoms began.
Also experienced a decline in stamina and energy, which, while perhaps related to aging, seems somehow tied into the symptoms. Not sure if loss of sleep can be attributed to this, or if it’s also age related.
As an added description of the symptoms: some headache and eyesore typically can result after waking.
Anyone who can help to identify the cause of the above or something which may be related – please respond with your thoughts, suggestions or comments. Thanks!

msorry to hear of your ailment. I'm no expert and never had this but is there a remote possibility it is a tapeworm. I heard they can become very large and live in the intestines for long periods. Maybe do some research. I hope you get to the bottom of this very soon....

I'm not sure if I was tested for tapeworm (I think yes) if not, I'll definitely have to check that out, thanks so much for your input! Most appreciated.

Have you had blood tests for parasites in your blood?. to test for things like lyme disease or other parasitical diseases.....i would think that if you have seen many infection specialists they would have tested you for tropical diseases. During your travels you may have been bitten or ingested one or more parasites that could be living just under your skin...if you haven't had blood tests for tropical diseases i would suggest you get some tests arranged with your doc...best wishes...

Ben do you get the crawly sensation only on your chest and around abdominal area? The other question I want to ask which is a bit personal if you think it is being invasive then dont answer, but there is good reason for it.
Do you have any hair on your chest and abdominal area?.reason I ask is I heard of a case many moons ago about a chap who had similar symptoms to yours. After a lot of investigation it was found out that his bedding was of a type of material that caused static and affected the hair on his chest causing the hair follicles beneath the skin to react and cause a crawling sensation under his skin where the hair was. The cure was to change his bedding to pure cotton bedding such as egyptian cotton...could this be happening in your case?.....you did say it only happens when you sleep.....just thought I'd mention this as it could be a possibility....
