Unexplained sick/nausea feeling after pancreatitis

Hi all,

So a relative has had severe pancreatitis which has led to a large peripancreatic fluid collection and some nectorizing.

It has been nearly 2-3 months and she is still in hospital due to vomiting bile and not enough oral food intake.

A Parenteral Nutrition feed has been setup which is given every night for 16 hours. However we are really concerned about the lack of oral food intake. Is this normal to feel like this even months after?

A CT Scan revealed that the pancreatic fluid collection is pressing against the duodenum but an abdominal xray shows no obstruction. She does try to eat but vomiting bile puts her straight off it. Doctors have confirmed her bile duct etc is not obstructed (gallstones caused pancreatitis in the first place). The bile vomit has often changed from yellow water to dark green water.

Unfortunately doctors are not giving any definitive answers (possibly because they don't know why), so I just wondered if someone had first hand experience of similar and how they overcame it? Would really help 😃

try and a get a referral to a dr who specializes in the pancreas. its possible she is developing chronic pancreatitis and will unfortunately have to deal with this for the long haul but if you get a dr who specializes in this organ they know exactly what and where to look to hopefully be able to help her feel vetter and lead a normal life. i do not have pancreas problems but from reading other peoples stories and studying the organ myself in school i know its a difficult organ and someone who has studied this organ specifically is just going to make a real difference.

I just had my pancreas removed … I developed fluid building up in my abdomen after surgery. I try to eat solid foods but my stomach has gone on strike (very common). I also have a feeding tube and have to set it up each night for 16 hours. When you're unable to handle solid foods the feeding tubes provide enough nutritional (even though mentally you want food). I don't know what type of doctor your relative is seeing because in the hospital a slew of them come in but ask for a pancreas specialist. Since there was necrotizing I believe that takes even longer to heal because they need to make sure they get all the dead tissue and prevent future dead tissue. I was just released from the hospital but a part of me wishes I was still there. I'm in so much more pain at home but at least I don't have the doctors coming in waking me up every two hours. Even in my case, my surgical team didn't know why I was getting fluid in my abdomen and it's painful! However I have noticed if I stick to broth instead of trying food it helps me. Everyone will be different in healing but stay positive, everything happens for a reason. Good luck and I hope they feel better soon.
