Unexplained virus in Colombia

Im perplexed as to what was wrong with me in Colombia last summer. Started feeling a bit dizzy and vertigo symptoms for a day. Then started shivering as if it was flu. Doctor was called out and thought it was malaria but tests proved it wasnt. It then progressed to severe headaches with diminished vision, inability to focus and sensitivity to light. The following three nights saw we projectile vomiting. I was totally wiped out like this for a week, struggling to stay awake, and totally disoriantated. I honestly feared for my life and lost about 14 lbs. Two hospital admissions and a brain scan didnt show anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Just thinking - (Im not a medical professional)

Did anyone mention possible insect bite? -could be a reaction

Did you have exposure to a toxin ?in air/water/food

Yellow fever- not sure how likely this would be in that area ??

Thanks for the reply. We had Yellow Fever jabs before we went so probably not that. We'd also been in the Amazon two days before symptoms started so maybe a bite or something i ate there. Although there was no diaorrhea But I had blood tests in two hospitals later and there were no abnormalities. One doctor just called it a non-descript virus. Just so strange as I'd never felt this ill before for so long!
