i had my first operation for this on the 29th january its now 13th of april, the wound seemed to have healed at the top but there is still a large hole at the bottom and recently 2 other holes have appeared in the bit which had healed a little and they appear to link to a chanel under the skin, the wound has continuously leaked pus and bled at intervals usuaually when attending the wc, i am going to visit the surgeon in a couple of weeks but would like to know if anyone else had had a similar experience and could predict if ill need anoher op..

I think your doing the right thing by having it looked at by your surgeon, it sounds as though the wound hasn't healed quite right or is breaking down in places. Did you get it packed daily by a nurse? you could ask the nurse or g.p to swab the discharge and they could give you some antibiotics which may stave off an infection while you wait to see your surgeon.

Don't despair everyone my son had an open excision on 01 August 2007 we have finally been given the all clear by the consultant took 8 months and sixteen days I sincerely hope this will be the end of it. I wish all those pilonidal sufferers out there all the best in their healing

i am 21 yrs old and

it has been 18 months since the 1st operation and been 5 months since the 2nd op, have two small holes with healed skin in between but open underneath as a tract, now ive been told might need a 3rd op, getting depressed!!

ATTENTION i started using this treatment called VAC it is a machine that promotes the skin to heal, this worked after 3 weeks but then the wound opened again, maybe this might work for anyone else?

speak to district nurse about VAC they deal with it, good luck
