Universal Credit

Will I be affected by the proposed Universal Credit transfer?

I am receiving PIP and ESA Contributory In the Support Group. (Having paid adequate stamps in over 30 full time working years.

When is this proposed for the North East of England?

Anyone know what will happen to people like me please?

    Hi,

Nope, you won't be if you're just claiming Contributions based ESA because this isn't means tested and UC is. It's likely that you'll be transferred to New Style Contributions based ESA but same benefit, slightly different name with a different phone number. If you're claiming the Income Releated top up then for this part it will be 2019 at least.

Likewise for those that are just claiming Income Related ESA, it will be at least 2019 but much later than that for a lot of people.

If you're claiming housing benefit then for this is will be as ESA Income Related.

PIP and Council tax reduction isn't part of UC.

If you're curious and want to check your area to see if it is already/or when it will become a full UC area then google UC postcode checker and pop your postcode in there, it will tell you.

Thank you so much Denise, hope you and your family are OK? Your reply has 'put my mind at rest'. I don't receive Income related top up, housing benefit or Council tax help, just PIP and Contributory ESA in the Support Group.

I will check the UC postcode checker, out of curiosity. Relieved I can half relax for at least 2 years following recent reassesments. Thank you 'so much' appreciated.

Yes, i thought you didn't recieve any means tested benefits but added it just in case and it may also help others reading it. Take care!
