Unknown Hip Pain, any idea's?

I am 29 years old, not over weight but also not particulary active. I have had a pain in my left hip/upper thigh for over 2 years. I used to run a little and stopped because for some reason I have bad degeneration to my knee caps. I went to the doctor about my knees and hip, he sent me for physio but it has made no difference. If I lift my leg in bed it hurts and when I get up and down from sitting, I get a sharp stabbing pain and it takes a few moments to ease up and then its okay until I sit down again. I assumed the pain would just eventually go away. Has anyone ever experienced this? Does anyone know what it could be? I am planning on going to the doctors again but don't feel that they take it very seriously and It does not seem natural to me to have this pain for so long at my age, especially when I dont think I have done anything to make it worse. I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance

I am not sure that I understand you clearly.  Is the pain you experience in the actual hip joint?  It is difficult to know how to advise you, when I'm not sure you are experiencing hip joint pain, or possibly a torn tendon or muscle in your hip area.  Hip joint pain before my 2 THRs (total hip replacements) was a constant ache in the joint that was essentially never changing, which means that the pain took many years to develop and only grew worse with each day passing.  It didn't change much until the actual hip replacement were needed.   It became overwhelming pain during the last few years before THR.   I was diagnosed with hyperplasia of the hip which is degenerative bone loss in the actual socket, where both my socket and the ball were almost worn away.  Do you have osteoarthritis and hyperplasia of the knees?  Sometines, if your knees are bad, the hips will follow suit,  Describe your pain a little more and perhaps I could help.  A tear in your illeal band, the tendon that runs along the side of the leg from the ankle to the hip, can produce terrible pain and suffering.

I think thats the problem. I am not exactly sure where the pain is. It is not constant. When I stand up from sitting if I put wieight on my left leg I feel sharp stabbing pain at the very top of my thigh where it meets my hip. If I forget and dont ease into my step then my leg gives way a little. If I move around in bed and have to lift my legs it hurts, like stabbing pain again. It does not hurt if I am just walking around. The pain has got gradually more intense but not more frequent. Does that help? It feels like it may be the muscle but it has been 2 years?

Truthfully, if I were you, I would have xrays done of the actual joint first.  They can see if your bones have deteriorated and you need A THR.  Otherewise, go on the net and find ways to stretch the illeal band and that might reduce your pain.  The illeal band can hurt for years if not properly stretched and then suddenly use the leg very physically.  I hope this helps.

Thank you, I will do some Googling and make a doctors appointment. I appreciate your reply. I need to try and force them into an xray. They don't seem to want to send me
