Unspecified kidney failure?

Hi guys wonder if anyone has anything similar

I’ve had on going renal problems for a while now, repeat cystoscopy, catheter angiograms, scans , mri,ct. my urine dip sticks for 15 months have shown +++ blood and ++ protein, I’ve recently seen my nephrologist and urology team and they have since put on my clinic review letters unspecified kidney failure?

Has anyone else had experience of this if so what if they would share there experience ?

Thanks in advance !

    Hi Josh

Not had quite the same probs but I have CKD 3a/b and only blood ++ in my urine, so far my scan and scope negative, they said I had kidney disease of unkown cause until recently.

I went for a lot of anti body tests and came back with auto antibodies ANCA positive, so now they are suspecting autoimmune kidney disease.

Did you have antibody tests? Just a thought.

Hope you find out, did you have a biopsy yet? I think that is next on my list of tests.

    Good luck x

I’ve had so many scans etc but they said nothing on the scan is showing but just in my 24 hr urine collection and urine dips etc. I’ve asked the consultant about a biopsy and he said he wasn’t comfortable doing one at the moment with the amount of blood I have already and he doesn’t want to cause me to bleed more.

I haven’t had any of them testings as of you I’m going to see them Friday and have a list of questions to ask them etc.

It’s been 15 months now and would just like to know what it could be or what’s causing it. I get infections a lot, sepsis quite a handful of times.

Thank you for replying and I hope your ok! X

Josh, likeJane I have CKD3b.  I also have just a sole kidney.  Last year I had a load of UTIs,  mostly e-coli bacteria and blood and protein being found by the Lab, and the infections plus the antibiotics to treat them adversely affected my kidney function.  One AB was prescribed for too long by a GP who should have known better and landed me in hospital from the dangerous AB-acquired Clostridium Difficile!  Some time later, an ultrasound revealed a small growth on the bladder.  Thankfully, when removed  under GA it was found to be benign.

Do you know what your eGFR and creatinine levels are?  These are good markers of kidney disease?  Are you drinking plenty of water and avoiding

salt in your diet?  Also if you have been taking any anti-inflammatory medications, avoid them like the plague in future.  Jane’s suggestion of being tested for autoimmune inflammatory conditions is a good one - it was one such illness that led to CKD for me.  Lots of good luck wishes for a diagnosis and treatment soon so that you can get on with enjoying your life.

My GFR levels are fine my creatinine level is apparently above range, I avoid salt, I don’t take any anti inflammatorys. I’m going to see what they say this week when I go to see them.

      Hi Josh

Are you male? Did they test your prostate? I expect they did, just a thought.

How do they work out kidney failure if your GFR is normal???

They did a month back and all was good. And I have no idea! I was wondering the same thing just want to know sad

Josh, intriguing if you’ve been told your eGFR is normal yet your creatinine is raised because the creatinine level is usually  the test that determines the eGFR percentage.  If my creatinine is raised then my kidney function reduces accordingly.  I’m surprised that you are being told your eGFR is normal but you

have kidney failure, unless I’m missing the point here?

Did they actually tell you you had renal failure or did you just see it on notes?

If you have not been directly told then I wouldnt take much notice of what is written on the notes as this could just be an admin code etc..
