Unsure about piles pain, can anyone confirm if this is normal?

I've been told by my doctor that she thinks I had a haemorrhoid because of bleeding and itching. Suppositories seemed to clear this up, but the bloody stool mucus has come back, and now there's pain too. My reading around the subject tells me that external haemorrhoids hurt, but internal ones don't. But then some places say they do. I'm really confused by this, so my question to you all is this:

What type of pain do internal rhoids cause? What I'm getting is internal, dull, inconstant aching, very localised to an inside point. It's almost like the ache of a pulled muscle but all in one small spot. It comes and goes, made worse by sitting which I assume is due to pressure on it. It's combining with lower back pain too. Everyone else seems to be talking about burning pains and tearing pains.

I am going to try and get an appointment next week to talk about potentially more serious causes because there is a history of colon cancer in my family, but of course this has come to a head when the surgeries aren't open, and now I get to spend Christmas weekend and holidays mostly just terrified of what's going on. sad

You can still get pain with internal haemorrhoids if they are edemstous or are quite swollen and prolapsing

    I had that pain

The pain would last for hours after a bowel movement

I didn’t have bloody mucous during a bowel movement tho. That could be ibs perhaps?!

Thank you - I had to look that up honestly, never heard edematous before! These aren't prolapsing, which was part of what confused me. I thought it was only the outside ones that hurt.

I do have IBS, so when they ask about changes in normal bowel movements I'm always like, well...define "normal". AFAIK bloody mucus shouldn't occur in IBS, so this is definitely new for me.

Hi Ella was thinking Bloody mucous is also a sign of potential bacterial infection like clostridium deficile. So a stool sample could rule that out.  Have u recently been on antibiotics??

That could set off a bowel infection as it kills the good bacteria which keep the bad bacteria in check

Hi Ella. I’m guessing you have a thrombosed internal hemorrhoid. I had one that turned into an anal Fissure. The best thing you can do right now is take lots of sitz baths, increase your fiber, and drink at least 64 oz of water per day, if not more.

Try  to sit in tub for at least 20’ Daily 3 or 4 times. That’s the only thing that cleared me up. Also, try not to strain when having a BM.

    good luck,

    Sharen

Your description of the hem pain sounds exactly how mine was. I had three internal which didn’t bother me apart from the huge amount of blood loss. However every now and then one must have thrombosis or got stuck and that’s when I felt the pain you describe. I know it’s  easier said than done, but I hope you manage to have a happy Christmas. Let us know how you get on after Christmas.

Hi drink plenty of water and have a high fibre diet. But I would definitely get checked out, before anything get worse.
