Unsure on weightloss steps

Hello

I am slightly confused by the steps needed to take in getting a gastric band. I suppose am very black and white and just need to hear you can have or do qualify.

So can pls any one tell me the steps that they went thru to qualify for a band. I have seen the weightloss team at the hospital and said I have to work with dietian and others for 9 month to 1 yr and if I feel like I still require a band I will be reffered is this gud news.

I know it's life changing and it's going to be a long journey but for a better quality of life I am motivated and prepared. The doctor I seen did say wether I lost the stone or 6 stone in the time of seeing the dietian I could still qualify for a band.

Are these positive steps anyone pls

Yes it is life changing and hard at times but worth it.

I had mine fitted 4 years ago but wasn't right. It took me a while to get it corrected. Which was done last may. My recorded weight from September 2014 to now is 26kilo down.

You do have to see dieticians n psychologist before and get referred if the consultant thinks so.

It can still take a year after consultant referral to be operated on though

the length of time it takes to jump through all the NHS hoops does vary from area to area but i think it is true to say that they all need for you to show commitment and to assess whether the band is right for you personally as there are other types of wgt looss surgery to which you copuld be better suited but the bariatric team will talk this through with you and make an informed decision based on your health status, eating habits etc - i self funded so didnt have to play the waiting game - i was all done and dusted in 2 mths from the date of my initial appt to the actual date of my op - that wsa over 8 yrs ago - if you have any co-morbidities such as diabetes, sleep apnoea etc these can go in your favour with regards to wgt loss surgery - it is a long process but it does sound as if you are on the launching pad so good luck and my advice would be to do as much reasearch as poss about the various types of wgt loss surgery and look at both the negatives and positives of each one then try to decide which you could and could not live with as everyone is different and what suits one person does not necessarily suit another

Sorry for late reply I have first Appt with dietian next week hopefully to set up a calorie controlled diet not sure as am knew to all this . I've started making small changes at home with no fizzy drinks only grilling food and candorel instead of sugar etc didn't want to do to much at once asaid I think that's when you are more likely to fail. Could you pls tell me if after this process with the weightloss team I have done well and they refer me to the surgeon could he still refuse to do it . Sorry for all the questions

hi claire - i self funded my wgt loss surgery so I didnt have to through the same rigarmarole as you - from start to finish it took me 2mths to get my op - when you have your appt with dietician you could ask him/her what the time scale is likely to be but it is good that you are already making changes as I am sure it will all help
