Unusual Initial Outbreak -- MY story

Hello all... This is my first time writing in ANY forumn, so remember to be nice
I am a female living in the US, and just contracted my first herpes outbreak in January 2016. I thought it would be beneficial to share my unusual experience, so others may see that there is no "norm" for herpes.
First a little background... I am 25 years old, and I have been in a faithful, committed relationship with my fiance for over five years. Since I have been with him, he has always had oral HSV1, with a cold sore outbreak every few months. Although he has never given me oral sex with a visible outbreak, he loves to give oral on the reg (sorry TMI) and now we have learned that he can be shedding the virus without symptoms. I have never had any signs of outbreaks orally or genitally until now. My first outbreak went like this...
Sometime after New Years I noticed a single, small "blister" on the inside of my vagina. I occasionally get ingrown hairs or razor burn, so I really didn't panick until two days later when it was burning when I urinated. I immediately went to OB/GYN, who prior to visusally examining my blister, let me know she thought it would be herpes. When she finally examined my spot, she told me it was unusual and did not appear to be a typical herpes outbreak. It was a small single bump that was healing rather quickly, and typically the first outbreak is the WORST. I also had no discharge or any other typical symptoms. To be on the safe side, she performed a swab test on the blister as well as a blood test.
The blood tests for HSV1 & HSV2 came back negative. The doc let me know this was not a "pass" yet, because my body may not have had time to build up the antibodies yet. The culture test came back positive for HSV1, which I had contracted orally. The doc prescribed Valtrex, that I could either take daily or just when an outbreak occurs.
Thankfully, when I told my fiance the news through a face full of tears, he was extremely positive and supportive. He also felt responsible since I had contracted it from him orally, but he let me know it changes nothing about how he feels about me. He also assured me I was still "sexy" and this will not affect our sex life. He believes this has brought us closer. Lol. God bless him.
I wanted to share my story for several reasons:
1) My outbreak was not typical. It was VERY, VERY mildnand looked NOTHING like herpes pictures I could find online. One, single bump with no other symptoms other than a burning when urine got onto the blisterl. With that being said, PLEASE make sure to go to the doctor right away if you suspect anything out of the norm "downstairs".
2) There are people out there that are going to love and support you through your diagnosis. It CAN happen for you.
3) This disease does not define you. The stigma of herpes is so outdated and statistics need to be updated. 80% of people have one form or another of HSV. Having herpes does not make you "dirty". I have been with the same man for five years and contracted it!
4) You are not alone.

I've had this now for a few months, and visit this forum to see posts everyday of people who are newly diagnosed, and it's amazing how much stronger people become. It's a silly skin condition, and while the name sounds gross, it's just that; a skin condition.
Thanks for the post and keep staying positive! 😎
