Upcoming Laproscopic Cystectomy

Hi all. I’m 22 about to have my first surgery. I’m having a laproscopic cystectomy. I have a 10cm cyst next to my ovary the dr believes is endometriosis. I have extreme pain constantly and even worse on my period. I’ve gone through about 6 different pain medications and finally the drs want to remove my cyst. My surgery is about 2 weeks out. I’ve had my pre-op with the surgeon and signed all the necessary papers. I meet with the anesthesiologist next week. After the cystectomy they will take the cyst to pathology and have it all tested for cancer to determine if i her to keep my overy and Fallopian tube.  I was wondering though what I should do to prepare myself for surgery? What items should I buy to help with recovery? I’ve already purchased a shower chair and shower head with a hose attached. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also If you know any information about getting pregnant afterwards I’d appreciate it.

You are prepared beyond anything i needed for any endo surgery in my 20s, including for a total hysterectomy. I didn't need a shower chair when endo returned in my 50s & cost part of my bowel ,,, got infected, pulled open incisions & attached vacuum, out then back into hospital for another week, then out w/vacuum pump for 3 more weeks. Still didn't need a shower chair.

You need some soups & applesauce, a heating pad maybe, some hard mints, some books or dvds. You meed to get up & walk around a little every hour or 2 to help get rid of the gas they pump into you. Chewing gum can help with that. You need some good pillows, and you need to pay attention to the directions on how to care for your incisions & what signs mean theu're infected. Tho i refuse antibacterial soap at all other times, my surgeon insists that i use it all over my abd. for a few days before surgery.

Lately we've had several young women get infected lap incisions. No idea why, but pay attention to those cuts.

If all goes well you should be up & around in a couple of days. I went home w/friends, stayed 2 nights w/them & then went home, back to school & work the next day. Only reason to go to friends' place was to keep me & my 85-lb dog from bumping into each other.

I hope all goes well for you.

I had a 12cm cyst on my right ovary and had surgery in Thursday turned out they had to remove my right ovary. I went home that day because they were able to do it all laparoscopically I was back to work on Monday. I work in admin. So I just things a lot slower and my co workers will not allow me to pick up anything over 10lbs or bend over to get anything. I can tell you rest and lots of sleep I over did it day 1 and ended up sleeping for almost 48 hrs with maybe an hour or two of being a wake.

The plan for my surgery is laparoscopic as well but I have breathing issues and I’m high risk for infection due to my immune deficiency so they will keep me overnight and the dr said to take at least 3 weeks off of work because of the kind of work I do I hope that it will be complication free and as easy as you made it sound.
