Hi all, Last Sunday I finished my 4th course of antibiotics in 2 weeks! Thought I had had 4 water infections as a result of VA and not being on HRT. My last course of antibiotics lasted a week, the others were all three day courses. Anyway I was dreading a return of the infection coming back but so far, its not done! I didn't think I would be telling you that! So I am now thinking that I didn't have 4 separate infections after all, I think it was the same one that just never cleared up till I took a longer course of antibiotics! I didn't use the D Mannose though it's there for next time. Not only has the UTI not returned but my V A hasnt been too bad either, not perfect but not as severe as I have known it either. Just a vague feeling of wanting to wee all the time and mild soreness compared to how it can be. So not too bad a week all in all. I just hope I haven't spoken too soon! I don't know if its co-incidence or not but I have been smearing Hydromol all round the outside of my Vagina before I go to sleep of a night. Anyway so far so good. :-)

Shirley , I too have been prescribed 3 courses of antibiotics , for a water infection I reported to my doc 2 months age , I am now on a weeks course so I'm hoping that solves it . I was getting terrible urethra pain  and burning which my doc said might be attributed to my infection , and advised me to use sudacrem or e45 , I figured e45 was a tad more gentle do I have been applying that

Fingers crossed that your weeks worth of antibiotics works for you too Jools. Had not thought of using sudacrem. I agree the e45 will be better. I'm just using Hydromol at the moment. Still no sign of water infection though I have had slight feelings of wanting to wee all the time this morning but they've gone now.

My fingers are crossed in hope that you aren't getting another UTI Nancy. Hope all goes well for you at Stanford.

nancy, you are our Stanford pioneer! If you look behind you you may see a gaggle of women in the shadows eagerly awaiting word from you. Maybe we should all go to specialty clinics to see what they say so we can compile and compare data. (As I'm so bad with meds I'm still stuck on the Mona Lisa idea.)

      Hope you get positive results!

Hi to all. This is what I learned at Stanford.  There is more study being done into our problems.  The Mona Lisa has shown excellent results but more studies are ongoing.  I may be able to get into a trial next year for Mona Lisa which means I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket.   In the meantime all available to us is HRT creams. .  Dr feels creams work better than ring or vagfem as you can apply cream to outside of VJ n urethea to try to stave off uti,s.  I don't like taking HRT because worry about side effects. But no choice as can't take the pain. Beginning studies show Mona Lisa helps reduce or eliminate uti's.  All too soon to tell. Wish I had more to report. Bottom line future looks bright but right now no magic bullet

Yes dont know how the mona lisa treatment would help with vulva atrophy.my doc said vagifem would also help vulva irritation along with helpng vaginal irritation.?cream sounds messy.if a person happens to have lichens sclerosis i would think vagifem would be a better choice as with LS you already have to use a cortion cream.

      I meant cortisone

Thanks for the report! Would be great if you got into the trial. Have also concluded after reading this site the only choice was hormone cream along with additional moisturiser if needed. Other than the one very unfortunate person who was prescribed the cream at dangerous levels who got cancer as a result, I wonder if there have been any cases of cancer occuring when the cream is used per instructions of the pharmaceutical company. This is what we need to know to put everyone's mind to rest.
