update anterior RTHR post op

I had my right hip replacement on April 25, 2017. I had the anterior approach. While the surgeon was drilling in the femur bone, he cracked it. He put a clamp around it and proceeded to tell me afterwards. He also told me that he wanted me to do absolutely nothing and would not prescribe physical therapy until after my 6 week check up.
Recovery has been wonderful!! I actually have to walk up and down the stairs 3-4 times a day. I have no restrictions. I have been walking around with only one crutch but just yesterday I was cooking in the kitchen and wasn't using the crutch at all and also forgot the crutch I was I walked 5 steps down and back up the stairs before realizing that I forgot my crutch! A little later I had a bit more pain because I think I over did it but I still feel great that I did do it!!!
Sleeping is still a pain but I can roll on my unoperated side for awhile at night.
I never did have the toilet raiser so that was never an issue but I still straighten it out as I go to sit. I was done with the shower chair last week. The Ted Hose were gone after the two week appointment. I was just instructed to use them on long car trips. I was able to put a sock on without any aides but it did take me like 5 minutes.
The pain meds are on an as needed basis. I have stopped those at the second week appointment but continued to take the aspirin for clots.
I have started on the the treadmill but I am taking it slow and will slowly increase in speed and incline.
Well I think that's all I have at the moment so thank you for everyone's advice on thi wonderful forum and I hope to continue such great recovery with great outcomes!!!!

Wow hipstride, you're brave to strike out on so much activity so soon after THR, especially since your doctor advised "nothing" for six weeks and that isn't until June 6! I'm glad everything is going so well for you.

Hey, Hipstride......You're doing great! I had a left THR March 27 and did very well, also. I stopped the pain meds on the 6th day after surgery. Also, I quit using the walker that day and never used a cane. Two weeks after my surgery was Easter Sunday and I went to church and had to climb 15 or so steps to get into the door of the church. I've been so lucky with the speed of recovery and, like you, I can't just sit around the house doing nothing. It's been seven weeks now and I overdo it somedays and have to take tylenol for a dull ache in my leg, especially when I lay down to sleep after overdoing it. I'm happy to hear that someone else has had so much success with recovery!

You are doing awesome!!! I am so happy for you also!!! I think that I can't sit still because I was always doing something prior to the surgery! When I wasn't at work, I was constantly doing errands and running (driving) for parts or doing my 5 mile walk or shopping or outside doing yard work but I was always doing something. Now, I am limited and that has drove me up the wall!!! So I would like to say that it has a lot to do with my mentality in life.. My body is not meant to sit still nor my mind and so I continue and I get a little further every day!!
Good luck with the rest of your recovery!! It is definitely worth it!!
Take care!!!

Thanks for your encouragement! I think we must be just alike! I was always blowin' and goin' before surgery doing all the things you mentioned!!! I would never be called a couch potato LOL. I've really had to watch it so I won't overdo it now since I've had the surgery. It was a curveball from h*%# to break my hip and brought my life to a standstill.......for a minute. HA. I am soooooooo hoping that in time I get back to feeling like this is my own hip and not a HR! It was awesome to hear your story and know that I have a kindred spirit out there with such a positive mentality! My 6 week dr. appointment was last week and the doc said I can do anything now, including hanging wallpaper which I've done for over 30 years. I'm anxious to see how it feels to run up and down a ladder again and get a job done!

Wow!! I can't imagine running up and down a ladder!! My luck I would fall but that's me lol... Congrats on the good to "go" ....I am so unpatiently waiting for that!!! But I am gonna go test drive... I live in a small town with a lot of country roads all around us so it should be alright? I am actually wanting the OK to go golfing and bowling!!! I am not good either but love the sports!!! 🙂

So happy to hear that you are doing to well, but I must admit I'm a little concerned that you may be overdoing it. Especially as the surgeon told you not to do anything for 6 weeks. PLEASE be careful! Our bodies take time to heal, and unfortunately we can't spead up that process no matter how impatient we are.
I truly wish you the very best as you continue to heal.

Thank you for your concerns and I truely am trying to be as patient as only I can. I am listening to my body so when she says that's enough then I don't push it and I go lay down. Just really excited to do things and to getting out of the house as much as I can. 🙂
