Update from my surgeon-Psoas release clarification

See below email from surgeon who did my revision & psoas release.
I am moving better and feel there are improvements albeit gradual. I do take my rehab seriously & strength train.
I’m hoping that this psoas release does improve as the surgeon suggests. I do trust his opinion as he did my right hip 6 years ago and it has been problem free from week 6! The left hip was my problem hip done by another surgeon.
Fingers crossed!
“Hi Inhal
Thanks for your enquiry.
The release of your psoas tendon was necessary as there remained exposure of the tendon to the front edge of the new acetabular component despite me deepening the socket. Leaving it un release would have led to shredding of the tendon & ongoing pain. I would expect full recovery of your psoas function over time but this can take up to 6 months from surgery. You have to realise that recovery from any revision hip replacement is always slower than from a primary THR”

Dear Inhal
Thanks for posting your surgeon's email. Interesting what he says about a revision taking longer to recover from than a primary.
When I asked my surgeon what my recovery time would be expected to me he said about the same as before.
In the event it was longer due I think because of bad bruising to my muscles which I think was because I had been taking blood thinning tablets for several years before.
I wish you well with your recovery.
Cheers
Richard

Yes blood thinners would do it Richard.
You know what annoys me about this whole process is
A. Surgeons are either ignorant & don’t know.
Or B. They lie to us.
Or C They are covering their backs
I do trust surgeon who did my revision. He is well regarded & tells me when he needs a second opinion.
All the best Richard.
I’m still waiting on the medical body APHRA to get back to me regarding their assessment of the surgeon who stuffed up my left hip. Will update as soon as I do.

How great that your surgeon responded and explained why he found it necessary to perform this procedure - Apparently the psoas is a big, complicated muscle -
As for healing, we all heal at our own rate and in our own time - A surgeon or anybody can only estimate the healing time based on previous surgeries -
There is no ignorance , or lies or covering their backs, Inhal ...
My surgeon told me that it could take up to 12-18 months for healing to be completed and sometimes even longer - this was not a worst case scenario, but just the process my body needed to go through - With 2nd THR he emphasized that I cannot compare it with the 1st surgery -
You are doing great -
Maybe slow down a bit on strength exercises to allow healing to take place ...
big warm hug

Yes I had this crazy butt pain! Like a big hard lump in my butt. I got a massage ball & rolled it like crazy and that helped a fair bit. From what I’m learning all those supporting muscles; glute min & med, adductors, piriformis, rectus femoris as well as the ITB band all take on a massive role in compensating for the now weaker psoas. I get on my roller & massage ball & it helps so much. I think I twinged the psoas when I turned & it hurt like crazy. The crazy butt pain has gone but there is a sort of burning /hot sensation in the top part of my groin. Surgeon says be patient. So I will be??
How are you going?
I’m 7 months post op.

Since its my right leg i cant drive far...its too scary to chance moving right leg from accelerator to break
If i pm my number u can u send pic of massage ball? Also i found this piriformis stretcher with good reviews and i wonder if that would also help.
THANK YOU!
