HI
Just an update about my experience 7 weeks after being told i had Glandular FEVER
My really bad sore throat which i had seven weeks ago has now returned, i have also today been referred to a Neurologist to see if i have any nerve damage
My left lower arm feels weak compared to the right and my thumb still wont bend
My right upper arm is also heavy and aches a lot
Has anyone on here experienced any of the symptoms or issues i am having
Sore throat returning?
Weakness in arms, and specifically what was the weakness like?
Hope i am not alone?
James

I have weakness in my arms and legs but not to the point i can not move them. Aches and pains in chest stomach shoulders and head almost non stop everyday i went to the neuro and he did not seem to concerned about it. All i have gotten from doctors is you are normal or give it some time and it will get better. Touch sickness to have i can tell you that because there is no rhyme or reason and no magic pill to make it go away.

Never had the really bad sore throat or the fever really maybe just a touch of both. My "weakness" feel more like i just did a really hard workout like right after there where everything seems heavier or harder to move around. It is not that i cant move around but it seems like i have to try a little harder than i should and i still have that mostly everyday.

HI
I am 44, fit and healthy prior to this.
I have felt better over the last few weeks, a bit more energy
My throat isnt as bad as it was in the first few weeks, it feels like something is stuck, my left gland is swollen again
How old is your son and what symptoms does he have?

he is 16. this all started back in september . he got better and then sore throat/really swollen tonsils again in april. another positive monospot. fine 3 days later. then about 5-6 weeks later sore throat, fever, swollen lymphnode. thats where we are right now. he laid around for 3 days. says he is feeling fine but lymphnode still swollen. He is out of town right now so I'm not sure w his workouts are going. He is a baseball player and has been lifting/working out twice a day most days.

I am bot a doctor by far but if it is mono he probably will not get 100% better until he takes some time and rests. I was a big baseball player my whole life through college non stop the whole year every year all across the U.S. I know how strenuous it is traveling and playing practicing especially in the summer. I hope he gets a chance to rest to get this stuff cleared up.

i agree Josh. It's a hard age to get him to understand that he needs to let his body rest and heal. and its summer!! At least he has decided not to travel for baseball this summer. he is going to stay home and manage the girls softball team for the high school. The cough still has me concerned though.

I have never had the cough or the fever with it. Many many symptoms but no cough. I am sure it will clear up soon as long as it does not affect him exercising or have terrible coughing fits. Probably like one you get from a cold that sticks around until you get used to it then one day you figure out it is magically gone. Best to keep an eye on him though. Us boys are hard headed sometimes especially in high school lol

Hi James,
You most definitely are not alone and want to reassure you that the symptoms you describe are very common for mono. I really empathise having went through this awful virus a number of years ago, these initial weeks / months were by far the worst and want to reassure you that the intensity will lessen and that with time you will get back to full health again - just so frustrating this virus that it can take a bit of time, so don't panic if it's not overnight but truly you will get back to full health again with time, I truly believe that given my own recovery experience (thanks to God only) after an extended period of struggling with it and reading the recovery stories of so many others who went through an awful time with it. Hoping so much these horrible symptoms settle down - hang in there James and just take things one day at a time.
Vitamins and herbs certainly helped me a lot during recovery, taking a good strong multi-vitamin per day (I take Immunace Extra here in the UK), higher doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day), a B complex vitamin (great for nervous system and energy levels) and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng and echinacea. But of course I'm no expert in vitamins / herbs, just going on what helped me and it's important to check for any interactions with other conditions / medications before starting anything. Seeing a good herbalist I found really helpful too for advice on this stuff.
Hang in there James and this is a really good forum for people who know what it's like to go through this awful virus - and remember you will get better with some time, truly you will.
