Update on acute diverticulitis

hi everyone. Some of you will know me. Had acute diver with 7 day hospital stay 2 months ago. Had really slow recovery. Some good days some bad.had a few more bad days recently. Just not feeling well.  Started to have back pain  and jiggly side painlast week.  Loose motions in mornings . Went to specialist yesterday. He asked if I had any more blood( which I did at beginning) but I said no because I haven't. Lo and behold had some blood this morning with first toilet visit. Worried now. I had some blood tests which he ordered. Has anyone else had this blood so far down track from original infection? This is making me so miserable. Any replies appreciated.

Have you had a colonoscopy?   If not, seems like that would be a good next step - although they might want to do CAT scan first to be sure you aren't having a diverticulitis flare.

Hi Dee. He didn't suggest colonoscopy. I'm not sure if they do that here in Australia if bowel still inflamed. Had a cat scan to diagnose original acute diverticulitis in late November last year. I feel like it's a flare . Guess blood test will tell hopefully. Get results tomoz. I feel, like it hadn't completely gone away to be honest. Can you have a flare so soon after original infection? With blood in stool? I'm new to this so not at all sure.

I never have had one right on top of another, but I've been blessed, I think, from reading some of the comments on here.  They usually wait 6 weeks after an attack to do a colonoscopy, but you are correct, they won't do one if there is a chance you have inflammation going on. Blood test should show if there is an infection going on.

Thanks Dee. this is a miserable experience, I'm an especially anxious person too, so that doesn't help. I thought I'd be over if by now. Specialist wasn't overly concerned yesterday that about my symptoms, but I had that damn blood this morning. Hoping to hear from some other people too that have had similar experience to me. Hope you are well.

I have found out I have LPR (silent acid reflux) which has been very annoying and worrisome - I am a very anxious person, also, and I seriously think that causes 75% of health problems that I have including this and diverticulitis.  ENT has recommended that I go to a gastro doctor and get endoscopy.  I am so over not feeling well, but am truly trying to remember my faith is in God and He is in control.  Best to you - hoping you get some answers soon.

Hi. Was the blood in the stool or on the outside, ? Was it brighter? If it's the latter and is bright red it could just be from rawness due to the loose stools . I dympathise with you as im going through a flsre right now and although im only going once or twice a day my motion is very loose and i still have that dam niggly pain on the left side. My flare started a week n a half ago and im fex up now too, and like tou im an anxious person. Try not to worry but if you're not happy get back in touch with your health professional. Hope you are well soon

Thanks Val. Yes the blood was on outside and bright red. Got results of blood tests and all clear for inflammation etc. it's probs as you say, my stools have been forceful and loose so that makes sense. This forum is a blessing for information from people that are going through same anxious times with symptoms. Thanks so much for your reply. Hope you feel better soon. So unpleasant!
