update on my journey

I had my assessment at the hospital. I struggled with some things, in particular getting up froma crouch and being able to walk on my toes. Managed to do heel to toe walking with a lot of difficulty. This was all on a good day!! that was about 4 weeks ago. I have had my neck MRI. I am on gabapentin, stomach liner and ibuprofen. That manages most of the pain. However, my mobility is terrible and i have to walk with a stick. Getting up stairs is difficult, i cannot get into a bath, i drop things and using a needle to mend my daughters teddy bear proved rather difficult. The mobility is frustrating as i am someone who gets on and does things. No idea how long before i hear the next thing. If i knew how many weeks i had to wait for news it would be much better.I cope better with knowing a timeframe.

    Hi Kay,

Glad to hear your pain is bearable, that more than anything else is important so that you can rest and sleep through this difficult time. Of course the reason for the pain is still there and having to wait for results and appointments is frustating but you cannot change the system, only the way you see it. My own experiences point me to think that your symptoms are all about the same as mine and I also struggle to walk, get in the bath and dropping things. I now get help from my local council who have supplied a mechanical chair to help bathing but I cannot get on with it as it hurts my back and shoulders.

While your waiting for tests and results look into who can help you, CAB or Social Services etc. so that you are prepared for any outcome .

Thanks. If things get really serious then there is a charity related to my profession that will help. What I could really do with is a blue badge. I refuse to give up on living my life but do struggle when out. Sadly without a label to my problems I am unlikely to get a badge.

    Hi ,

Your future is in your hands, no one elses. If you cannot work, don't. I am not been heartless, only realistic. When I had my problems begin I was running a successful decorating bussiness, self-employed. I lost everything including my good name, my creditworthiness and my dignity. If you struggle to walk, bathe, work and look after yourself then spend the next three months getting organised. Then when you do get your results if they are going to impact on you at least you will have made a start. No one but you can or will sort these things out.

    Best of luck, Mike.
