Update on the latest BPH surgery options UK

I have been away from this Forum for a while and just wanted to know what surgical interventions you are opting for if the BPH symptoms are getting too much and affecting your quality of life. Previously I was considering HOLEP, privately if necessary. Have things moved on or is TURP still considered the gold standard? Many Thanks.

Depends on your symptoms, age, other health conditions, probability of cancer etc.

Recovery time is shortest with Holep. Statistically, it also offers the longest period without BPH recurrence.

TURP is widely available but is more invasive and has a longer recovery.

    Side-effects are similar in both.

    Overview of other procedures:

Greenlight - has a shorter efficacy than Holep and does not provide tissue for histology.

Rezum - long recovery but lower rate of long-term side effects.

PAE - works on some but the outcome is unpredictable.

Aquablation - new to the UK, no long-term information, kind of a water-knife TURP.

FLA - don't think it is available in the UK but looks promising.
