Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, Exploding Head Syndrome, or maybe both??

For the sake of hopefully getting some answers, I'll try to be brief and concise. My symptoms started a couple of months ago when I tried to fall asleep and was jolted awake by some unknown force. It felt like I was receiving a shot of adrenaline, and the sensation would occur primarily in my head, every time I started to doze off, every night.

Fast forward to now, and that similar sensation occurs, but it feels like what I can only describe as a thud, thump, or pulsation in my head as I'm drifting to sleep. Its really quick and happens only once at a time, not continuously. If I dont take something to help me sleep, it keeps me awake at night. I looked and the closest thing I could find to this was Exploding Head Syndrome, although its not a loud gunshot or bomb sound, that I can tell. I think I may have had the "flashing light" thing happen once or twice, but I always get the weird head sensation. Recently, I had this happen a few times when Im awake as well. Apparently that can happen as well with EHS. Its hard to describe, but its more of a sensation or feeling of a noise than an actual, audible noise.

I had a sleep study done, which diagnosed me with Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome. This seems to cause me to awake during my actual sleep, but I never have any memory of it, and it definitely has not given me the same feeling. I THINK, that I may have both, or that maybe something even more terrible is at play besides UARS, like a tumor or lesion in the brain.

I hope that is not the case, but would like to hear from people who have had either, or both, so I can see where my symptoms match up until I can see my doc again. Thanks for reading and in advance for any help!

I have heard of this before. This has alot to do with the right exercise and diet, basically is what it comes down to. This is where they tell you to count to breathe and count to ten. There has been instances of other things though such as clots if you are feeling faint, tumours etc, but as you say it's just when sleeping, if your vision blurs, a lot when you are doing things that you regularly do outside, try taking your time, as you would do regularly, and if that doesn't help, and the symptoms worsen, consult, with a doctor. I specialize in sleep. That's what i do. I can guarantee sleep 100%.

Would a brain tumor cause these kinds of symptoms though? I havent had blurred vision but have felt light headed every now and then.

You say, you have not had the blurred vision, i feel this is intuitive with a brain, or some sort tumor. So i wouldn't worry. This might be anxiety, maybe if you are feeling, that you need to do something, sometimes not having a job can be the case. Josh. Something as simple as that. Or what i was thinking this is is just a simple case of not enough, sleep.

These type of jolts are very common symptom of withdrawal from benzodiazepine type sleep drugs or antidepressants. have you been taking any of those for a prolonged period of time? You might be in withdrawal and the symptoms come. Usually in withdrwal sleeping pills do not work anymore.
