Upper left back pain after stretching

Posted , 3 users are following.

So I was having a good yawning stretch this morning when suddenly a sharp deep pain shot through the upper left side of my back and neck. It hasn't left yet. I can't even turn my neck without making it worse. I just lay here in the position that minimizes it most.😔

Sounds very painful. Have you strained the trapezius muscle which is a big muscle in your upper back. There are exercises online to ease the discomfort. Lying still will worsen the pain s the muscles will stiffen up.

    Take care.

Yeah you're right. It helps a little if I keep moving. If I lay still for awhile getting up is very difficult. I'll look up the exercises thanks.

I have one very unscientific thought to share. It has been my experience that when a back pain is sharp like you're describing it's not typically a permanent pain. It's the ones that are deep aches or throbs or spasms those are the ones that become chronic. But the ones that are a sharp stabbing like pain are typically short in duration.

It's happened to me before and the pain is usually gone within 2-3 days

You didn't say how long it has been bothering you. So how long has it been bothering you? And what all have you done to try to alleviate the pain?
