Upping dosage success?

I’ve been on Escitalopram 10mg for almost 3 months now. My anxiety is absolutely over the top and the symptoms are getting worse and worse. While it’s helped with depression I feel like it’s not helping my anxiety. Has anyone upped to 20mg and it helped their anxiety?

Hi Hayley,  I couldn’t settle on 10mg so my Dr raised mine to 15mg and that has settled me, perhaps try that first. With each raise (I started on 5mg) I suffered quite badly with side effects so a gradual raise was better.

I’ve been on 15mg a year and a half and it may be enough for you too.

    Hope this helps

Hi Susan, you say you started on 5mg but what side effects were you having?

Hi Ryan, I had quite a few, nausea, shakiness, fatigue, feeling dizzy, a bit vacant, jelly legs, general aches and pains but when I went to Drs in the beginning I was really bad anyway! At first the escitalopram heightens all your symptoms but when it works properly it’s great! I didn’t believe it would as every day felt like a week and I couldn’t see myself getting better and it was hard with every increase but I’m all good now! My quality of life was at zero but now it’s a 9, can’t say 10 as that would be perfect and I know it’s still there but I’m controlling it with the meds! Hope this helps

Hi Jennifer, I’d say 3 months in total from the 5mg then 10 and then15. My dr did it gradually with me due to the side effects, how long you been on the 15mg? Be patient, you will be pleased you did, I am and just remember everyone’s journey is different x

I am having problems with anxiety too.. i had it at 5mg and 10mg  i am now on 15mg for 14 days .  i don;t want to go to 20mg  and you shouldn;t go from 10 to 20 .. your doctor should know about it first..  i have xanax also and that helps... but there are other meds to help with your anxiety.. but again you should talk to your doctor..   Do you also feel sick in the morning?   thats what i have problems with its like my stomach is so nervious when i get up..  i feel better but this lexapro is kicking my butt...  everytime u move up mg you start all over with the dam side affects.. at 3 months you really should tell your doctor and he/she might move you to 15mg first.    good luck and i know how you are feeling.. it sucks.. i am sticking with lexapro until the doc gets the right combo..  but ask your doctor about adding something for anxiety!!!!!!!!!!!!  let me know how you make out ..   i go to the doctors april 17th and we will see what she says.. but i am going to give it more time on 15mg...  before i go to 20mg..

I’m also on Buspirone which is supposed to be for anxiety only and it’s not really doing anything either... sad I do feel nauseated all the time.

i am too nauseated .  some days are better then others..  make sure you eat.  your belly needs food..  i just had to take my 2nd xanax and i hope it kicks in.  i am so sick of not being in control on how your body feels.  i went to get my nails done and i couldn;t keep my hands from shaking but if i keep up with the meds and drink decaff tea i sorta calm down.  and the weather here is terrible in NJ  and its not making any easier..  keep trying.. there will be a rainbow and pot of gold when your meds are finally working as they should .. oh god please...  keep me posted

I know how you feel! I’m in Alabama and the weather here is so bipolar it’s been so nasty and rainy and that makes it worse. I’m constantly shaky. And it feels like my insides are jittery 24/7 do you ever experience that??

WOW.. you are on busperone too.   i was put on that in the beginning.  that made me crazy.  even with the xanax.  i went off and then my doctor put me on viibryd and that too made me crazy..  but my doctor finally took me off of that and put me on LEXAPRO...  what mg are you on of lexapro?

I feel like my anxiety is probably worse now being on the Buspar actually.. how did it make you feel?? And my doctor prescribed be 20mg but I’ve been cutting them in half. So I’m taking 10mg.

you should call your doctor and tell him or her this..  i didn;t like the buspar because you had to cut it  .  unless yours are different.. ?   i took them with only my xanax.. so the buspar, lexapro you are taking?   if so i thought that the busbar was hard on me.. but you are on that and lexapro your side affects are boomen.. i think.  i am not a doctor.. i really think you should put a message for your doc and tell them and see what they say    u are on two new meds.. its going to be hard and i hope it will stop for everyone.  don;t just stop any meds without talking to doc first.   it will get better... i am also counting on it...   CALL YOUR DOCTOR...
