Upping medications-side effects?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi-I’m on 150 mg of nortriptyline and 125 mg of traz. I jumped up this past Friday from 125 mg of nort and 75-100 mg of traz. Since then, I’ve been jittery, shaky, eyes hurt and foggy. Also increased anxiety. I’m wondering if this is due to the increase in meds or just plain old anxiety. I also gave birth two weeks ago, so hormones might be at play. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I'll up the dose.  My GP prescribed the nortriptyline and klonopin.  I see a new neurologist on 5/1 so I'll talk to her about what I should do next.  I'm just going to work on getting off of klonopin in the meantime.  Hindsight is always 20/20, but I wish that I'd made the move to traz which is much less addictive. Ugh.

Good luck tonight.  I would think tonight wouldn't be so bad being the first day that you're off of it.  What time zone are you in?  Keep me posted.  It's nice having someone who understands what you're going through!  How  many days were you on 25mg?

I’m on the east coast-how about you?

Last night was fine-but I read it can stay in your system for like six days so next week might be bad. Ugh!! I hate this! It’s goid your seeing a neurologist, maybe they will have new idea or confirm nortriptyline is the right choice. How are you going to taper the klon? Might be worth getting on traz while tapering or something  else so you can still get some sleep.

I know-it’s so nice chatting about this stuff!! I was on it for about four days.

I'm on the east coast too - Pennsylvania.  Your a trooper for getting off of this different meds.  I'm going to cut down slowly.  I'm still not feeling good.  Not sure if it's the effects left over from augmentin, the klonopin or the nortriptyline.  I just increased my dose back to 25mg a week and a half ago.  It's so frustrating.  I'm shaky in the mornings, have ringing in one ear, head pressure, overall feeling anxious still.  It's so strange for me.  The only thing I can think of is to get off of klonopin so that at lease I'm on one medication and can see what it's doing for me.

      I’m in Maryland! Neighbors!

That’s smart. Hopefully it’s the klonopin. I too am shaky in the morning along with jitters and out in stomach. Didn’t have that until I reduced, so it’s either withdrawal or actual anxiety. Ugh-it’s the worst getting off meds! I suck it up and try to get it over with. Good and bad idea. Did you have those symptoms before or with increase?

I didn’t feel jittery and shaky and anxious until I started reducing.  Ive gone back up but I’m still shaky.  It’s weird though - it started about four days ago after I started augmentin.  I’m thinking that there is some type of interaction between the antibiotics and the nortriptyline and klonopin.

I bet that’s it!! I get super shaky on prednisone, so maybe it’s similar with augmention. Hopefully will go away. I’m feeling super dizzy today. Wondering if it’s stopping or something else?

I’m guessing that it’s from the nortriptyline.  How was last night and this morning for you?

Not great!! I slept like crap. It’s the falling asleep, even on traz. Sigh. I actually went to the doctor and I have a sinus infection. So that might be part of my dizzy issue. How are you feeling?!

Not so good here either.  I’ve been getting depression symptoms.  I’ve never been dpressed before.  I don’t know if the medication is causing it??? Maybe I should be on a higher dose of nortriptyline?  Could it be the klonopin?  I have no idea but I really don’t like feeling this way.

Ugh. Yah, that’s terrible!! I dont have depression just anxiety but know how terrible that can be! Hmmm, maybe? Or lower dose? You should ask your doc to get level measured, simple blood work. Might be too high, mine was and caused anxiety.

I didn’t have depression before starting both of these.  It’s weird that an AD would cause depression.  I’m so over all of this stuff.

      How’ve you been feeling?

Might be the wrong dose?? It’s all crazy. Could you call your doc and ask?

Not that hot-have sinus infection. Not helping me feel better. Blah. I’m seeing my doc on Thursday, hoping to get some answers.

I'm actually headed to the doctor tomorrow - it's supposed to be a check of my ears for the infection, but I've already given them the heads up that I need to talk about my medication and how I'm feeling.

Hope that you feel better and that you have a lot of help at home with the little ones!!!

The doctor thinks that the depression is related to my decreasing and then increasing my dose.  I've been back at 25mg for 9 days.  She said that it can take 2-4 weeks to be stable.  Feeling a bit better today - how about you?  Did they give you an antibiotic for the sinus infection?

Interesting! Good to have some answers. So are you going to stick with 25 mg?

I feel like garabage. I’m sure it’s a mix of being sick and anxiety/withdrawal. Sucks!!

She wrote me a script for 35mg if I was worried about the depression continuing.  She also suggested that I talk to a counselor about all of the stuff that I've been through recently with these meds along with how I'm feeling.

I hope that it's more sickness than withdrawal!

I sent you an email / pm, let me know if you get it smile

I did increase to 35mg last night.  I'll give it a few weeks to settle in, I'm hoping that the increase to 25mg levels out in the next couple of days.

      How are you feeling?
