Upset tummy week 6!
Posted , 2 users are following.
I'm on week 6 of taking 50mg of Sertraline for anxiety. I was pretty rough with side effects for the first 3 weeks. I couldn't eat, felt sick, upset tummy. Then it went and I've just been left with ringing in my ears and awful sleep.
For the last few days I've had an upset tummy again! Has anyone had side effects reappear? The only other thing I can think is it might be because I'm due on my period in a week and I've read that can sometimes upset your system??
It's miserable because it starts my anxiety and panic off everytime a health issue starts!

Hey Emily. I totally understand what you're going through. I have health anxiety as well. 2018 was a rough year for me. Any little health issue and my anxiety was through the roof. I have been on sertraline for exactly one year. I have been on 100 mg for about 7 or 8 months of that year. I want to say my anxiety has improved about 80%. The other 20% I'm still dealing with triggers. And let me tell you, those triggers usually happen around menstruation time. Yes, your period coming or being on the way absolutely effects things, along with your system while you're still getting used to your meds. It sends our hormones into a tailspin. Dont let this upset stomach give you anxiety. It's not gonna be forever. You will get better. Physically and mentally. It just takes time. I would say it took a good 6 months before I really felt good. And 2 of those months I was at my stable dose of 100. My advice is to give it another month. You said you've been on 50 for 6 weeks? I always gave a new dose 3 months to work. And if it still isnt working, it's time to increase. I know this sounds like a long process, but I promise it's worth it in the end. Dont give up. You're not alone. There's a bunch of us out here. Lol.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to try and see how my tummy gets on over the next few days. I read somethings about Sertraline causing colon issues and it made me panic! I just need to keep calm and hope it passes. I hope you are having a good New Year x

Hi!
A little update! I still have the upset tummy. I have had a stool sample checked and it's clear. I can only think it's the Sertraline so I've dropped it down to 25mg and will slowly come off it. I have had a constant ringing in my ears since being on it too. I think I will try another type of medication. Thanks for your advice
