Urethra Stricture At Tip Of Penis/ Self Dilation

When I was really young I had Hypospadias surgery then surgery for scar tissues about 10 years later. It’s been 15 years and now I’m having problems with a stricture at the top of my penis. I am now told to self dialate. I’m using a FR14 catheter tip and I put it in roughly 2 inches. I’m new at doing this, just started a few days ago.

Few questions.

When I finally get the catheter in about 2” should I leave it in for an hour or so just to help stretch the urethra?

My other question is it does sting after I pull it out to urinate which I understand is normal but will it always sting every time I do it?

I’m a 27 year old male and I dialate once a night. Reason for the dilation is because the urethra closed up completely.

Any advise would be great.

Thanks.

I don’t see a reason to leave it in more than a few seconds.

It it might sting from time to time.

I am in the same situation.   I had several hypospadias surgeries when I was younger.  Then about 11years who I started having a smaller stream when urinating.  Long story short, I had developed a stricture.     Eventually mine closed off and I had to rush to the urologist and they scrambled to get a suprapubic catheter in.

Was referred to a urlogy specialist at Duke, Dr George Webster.   He gave me some info and talked about the two stage urethrostomy or a dialation and I could self dialate.   I chose to get dilated under anesthesia and then self dialate.  I have done that ever since.   I only have to go in aboit 2 inches myself. I use a Fr14 size catheter.

Ever so so often it will get tighter but then it eases up and gets easier.   I do assume I will eventually have to get dialated again or possibly go for a perineal urethrostomy.
