Urethral Pain for 4 months

Hi, in January I had a UTI treated with antibiotics. The burning and typical UTI symptoms disappeared after the course of tablets, however I am now left with urethral pain and bladder discomfort.

I get a twinging/twisting feeling in my bladder randomly, I feel like I can't empty my bladder properly and sometimes when I stretch it feels like it's pulling. Last month I went to my GP and she prescribed me thrush cream - This didn't help and in fact made me very sore and inflamed in that area. The GP also mentioned BV, so I am currently taking Metronidazole (400mg 2 times a day). I have noticed that I haven't had the twinging/twisting feeling in my urethra and bladder since but I still feel like I can't empty my bladder fully.

Could I actually have BV and this be a symptom? Or could this be urethritis? I'm really worried and it's affecting my everyday life now. Is there anyone who is experiencing the same symptoms or have had this in the past?

Due to the current pandemic I have been told by my GP that they can't do anything more for me at this stage. Any advice would be welcomed.

You could still have a UTI. If it carries on try and be referred to the Whittington Trust Hospital, urology department or see Prof Malone-Lee. He is in Harley Street London and hospital is National Health

I don't live around that area. Also, I have tried to be referred to the hospital but my GP has said no referrals are happening due to the global pandemic. But what does that mean for people like me who need treatment?

Are you a female who has given birth? I have similar symptoms and I thought it was a urine infection but it turns out I have a prolapsed bladder. Hope that helps!

I have not had children and looking at the symptoms I don't have a lot of those so I don't think that's the case. I have days where I am okay (no sharp pains but still don't feel like bladder is completely empty) but then others where it's really bad, such as today. Thanks for your help though!

You definitely could still have an infection or a recurrent UTI. And follow a bladder friendly diet until this has cleared up, your bladder and/or urethra could still be inflamed but not infected. Google interstitial cystitis diet and you'll see what foods and beverages to avoid while you're healing. Good luck!

Thank you for your help, I have looked up interstitial cystitis and the thought of having that scares me as it seems no one gets better!

I understand how you feel: I was diagnosed with IC about 2 1/2 years ago and while it was devastating in the beginning and I was overwhelmed with a sense of never being normal again, those feelings passed. You can get to a point where you feel fine and the restrictions are part of your routine and frankly worth it in order to feel good. This isn't a death sentence. It's different and inconvenient and a PITA sometimes but...... most people have issues they're dealing with, whether physical, emotional or mental and this is one of ours. We can do what we have to do, feel better and rise above it๐Ÿ˜‰
