Urinary retention and constipation caused by genital herpes?

Hi,
Im a 23 y old male and I was diagnosed with genital herpes around 2 weeks ago, the doctor made the diagnosis only by examining the area around my left buttocks where i had some irritaiton and sores but also pain from hemorrhoids. I was prescribed Aclovir 200 mg and to take 5 tablets each day for 5 days, the sores healed quite quickly (which were not realy causing any significant discomfort in the first place) and it has been now about 3/4 weeks since all this started because i waited abit too long before going to the doctor. Buuuut during this whole process i have had a weak stream while urinating, i have to force it out by taking deep breaths and then pushing, I also have constipation, the doctor told me to buy some laxatives but did not mention anything about the urinary retention problem. The laxatives work i guess, and i do not have any pain in my stomache or a feeling that i need to pass but cant, it just feels like if i dont make sure it happens it wount happen.
When i looked into it i cant realy find anything on the unrinary retention and constipation problem and genital herpes, and i wonder if i should go back to the doctor or wait it out as symptoms of the first outbreak?

This is weird. Why is everyone having urinary problem? I wonder if it will happen every now and then because of herpes. My left buttock felt weird. Abit of numbness and something else that i cant explain.
Its also weird that your doctor didn't ask you to do a blood test. Like he's so sure by just looking at it. Same as mine.

ye, the doctor just mumbled that it´s such a common thing and the only reliable way is to see it first hand.
I am just worried about these other symptoms and hoping genital herpes cant cause permanent neurological damage...

Hi feliscatus!
Im just wondering, how long does it takes for your genital ulcers to heal? It has been a month for me and i can still feel an open wound. It doesnt hurt but i can feel a tiny hole and skin hanging at the side of it, if you get what i mean.

The first outbreak can come in two waves about a week apart. Is that what happened with you? Scabbing depends on the type of skin involved. Lesions on damp or mucosal skin typically don't scab. When they heal, they're just gone, although they may sometimes leave behind a faint mark that should fade with time. Sounds like your first outbreak is quite long, which must be very stressful! Hang in there. The *average* is 3 weeks, which means some people recover faster, but others slower. Four weeks is still within "normal". Are you on any meds for the outbreak?

I'd like to think that it might not be herpes but once again, all my symptoms doesnt seem to be anything else other than that sigh. I dont wanna jinx it but throughout the outbreak i only felt intense pain for 15 minutes. But maybe because I was on medication (herpevex) since the first day of the outbreak, so maybe the outbreak was somehow suppressed. Only took it for 2 weeks i think. Anyway, yeah it has been a little too long without any improvement. Averagely it take 3weeks to heal? Its crazy! Ive read that some people get outbreaks every 2 weeks. So that actually means no sex forever? I think you've had it for awhile now right? How often do you get outbreaks?

Sounds like you've not had it swabbed and are only guessing that it's probably herpes. If so, and if you still have open sores, you should get swab tested asap to find out for sure (and which type, if it is indeed herpes). I get outbreaks every 1-2 months, but they are mild and heal pretty fast, so it doesn't feel like I have it all the time. I'm also hoping the frequency will go down in a year or two!

They are usually single lesions that I only notice when I wipe or in the shower, so I tend to do almost nothing, as they don't bother me if I don't touch. Recently, I've been trying acyclovir cream after developing an annoying allergy to tea tree oil down below. I usually heal in 4 days on average. Yeah, it sounds often, but the funny thing is that I don't feel like they're very often. I only looked at my herpes "calendar of events" the other day, lol, and was surprised to find that my recent recurrences have only been 1-2 months apart! If you can find a clinic that can do a pcr swab for HSV, you can still swab. Failing that, a viral culture swab may still be worth trying.

I've noticed another "pimple" looking bump on my vagina after ive searched around. Its so hard to know if i have healed or if i have new blisters. If im one of them who gets frequent outbreaks does this mean i'll get new ulcers before the old one heals? this means endless outbreaks!
Does it hurt alot even if its just one single lesion? My doctor said if its herpes it usually hurts alot when touched.
Mind if i ask how you deal with your sex life? I keep having thoughts like im contagious. I keep finding new blisters.

People don't typically get back-to-back recurrences, so I doubt you will either.
My lesions are usually on the perineum (bit between the vagina and anus) and it causes swelling and soreness, but only to the touch, hence why I only discover the odd lesion every now and then when showering or wiping. This last one was extremely tiny, almost nothing to see, but the swelling and soreness was the same.
Lol, I am the worst person to ask about post-herpes sex, as I have been so put off by what happened to me that I no longer have a sex life to speak of. I don't want to have sex anytime in the near future either, and that's fine with me. Other people have sex after herpes, though, just not me, not yet.
