Urinating 20+ times a day, doctors baffled.

About 3 months ago, suddenly I started just needing to go to the toilet about twice an hour, getting up 4-5 times a night. I got tested for infection which I had no trace of, but took antibiotics anyway just in case. Since then I have tried Oxybuynin which was an absolute nightmare as it caused urinary retention. Now I'm on Vesicare which seems to have calmed it down EVER so slightly, but not by much.
Today I went for a bladder and kidney ultrasound, I did the usual preparation of drinking about 2.5L of water and a big smoothie this morning. I was absolutely desperate by the time the scan happened, but the lady performing it asked me if I had even drank anything as there was only about 30ml of liquid in there, and usually most people need about 150ml to need to go to the bathroom. She said it was like I hadn't drank anything at all today. After drinking all that water, I'm now going every 10 minutes and there's still a large amount coming out. I don't understand what is wrong with me, even she was completely baffled by it. Has anyone experienced anything like this? It's like everything is just bypassing my bladder but how could that be possible?

I'm certainly not an expert but it sounds like your kidneys are not producing urine at a normal rate. And your bladder has shrunk to give you the urge to go without a normal volumn in there. When you feel the urge to urinate, what is the volumn voided?

I never really considered it as a kidney problem, stupidly. I guess that would make sense. It varies really, sometimes it's quite a lot and sometimes not so much, but it never just a tiny amount. It's really strange, as it's still producing the same amount even when I've not drank for a good few hours.

Hi Lisa76930 I am a 68 year old male and started having similar problems with frequent urination about April this year and initially was diagnosed with Urine Infection and given Antibiotics. Following a not so long saga I was referred to Hospital Urology Team and prescribed Tamsosulin for Overactive Prostate, then after 4 weeks Doctor changed me to Solifenacin for Overactive Bladder for which I am currently on. None of these has reduced my constant outflow of Urine and in fact my symptoms are getting worse. Returned to doctors last week & after confrming I had a very Pale Urine Sample the Doctor reviewed my case history of Urine Frequency and considering the high volume I was passing out over 15 times per day decided to get Blood & Urine checked out again. After visiting this site & others & reading about Diabetese Insipidus (DI) we both noted similarities of my condition to (DI). My latest Blood/Urine samples have now been submitted for (DI) & we are currently awaiting results. However my Doctor is so confident it is (DI) that I have just today received my first (DI) Desmopressin Tablet medicatioin.
?Will be interesting to see how this all turns out. Have you considered being checked out for (DI).
Best of luck
Derek
