Urination issues after TURP

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had TURP surgery 7 weeks ago. The main reason for the surgery was because I was creating bladder stones which was caused by urinary retention in the bladder. Following the surgery, recovery appeared to be going well and I could pee normally soon after coming home. However, after about 5 weeks i noticed my urine flow was slowing down and it was starting to hurt. Over the past week, my pee rate has been extremely slow and a lot more frequent. My doctor ruled out an infection and put me on Flowmax. I have been on it for 2 days now and have not noticed any difference. NOt sure if anyone else has had this issue? Concerned if the flow continues to slow down much more urine flow will be completely blocked.

Sounds like stricture. I would have that ruled out.

likely need another cysto to see whats going on. if you're stream is not split it may not be a stricture, but you could be getting bladder neck contracture. there is a good video on youtube about a guy who had a turp and this happened to. it happens to a minority percentage of guys if that is what is going on.

given that your flow started strong in the beginning, the good thing is it sounds like your bladder has good strength and you don't have neurogenic issues there. it's likely more a piping problem they can fix and hopefully it won't be recurrent like this guy on youtube was (he had 2 follow ups to keep clearing scar tissue). his latest thing was getting steroids injected to try to stop the body's response to creating a contracture on the bladder neck.

just an FYI, obviously can't diagnose.
