Urine infection but lab says negative

Why do urine infections come back negative even though you have a urine infection. i've been on losartan for about 2 years along with another bp tablet. I have been going to my doctors regulary complaining of back pain frequent urine visits especially at night. They would give me anti-biotics and send the sample off, it always came back negative. But there has always been blood or white cells in my urine. So I was sent for a cystocopy on Monday thankfully they found nothing but rang yesterday and said I had a urine infection. So I have been given 6 trimethoprim looked them up and it says they are to prevent urine infections, so annoyed.

Im due for a camera in the bladder & tbh im hoping they do find something but somethin that is easily curable. Do u have any other symptoms? X

      Hi mimi

all sample tests are negative except for the one I had done at the hospital before the cystocopy. I've had blood in my urine for a year and a half, I get up about 5 times at night, but not sure if that is a bad habit or not as I normally have a drink then so I then need to go again lol. I also have lower backpain not sure if this if arthritis as i have it in my hips and knees. I googled this topic and it seems to happen a lot. My doctor normally gives me antibiotics whilist sending the test off. But again i googled that and the bacteria can be resistant to them. Do you take losartan because there was a thread on here and she seemed to think it started at the same time she started this medication and I'm pretty sure mine did too.

I should have said I googled negative urine samples and it seems to be quite common to have a nagative and still have an infection.

Hi Heken no im not on losartan but i came off the pill a month before my symptoms started as wanted to start a family. Unfortunately im finding that sex brings on even worse uti symptoms. Its crazy isnt it. Drs just look at me gone out. They are adament no inf as tests are -tive. Just want control over my body back again! X

yes it is so frustrating has your doctor given you antibiotics just in case. You must be having a cystocopy as well then, it doesn't hurt just incase your worried I would rather have that, than a smear.

Hi Heken. I get up 5 or 6 times a night to go wee. I thought everyone did until I was sharing a vacation w 8 other women, my age

(60 to 75 yrs) and none of them had to go that often. Some did

not have to get up at all. I have no symptoms of infection. I drink mostly water during the day and limit to just sips during the night. I'm a runner and never have issues when I cough, just occasionally when I night. My meds are valsartan for BP and rosuvastatin for cholesterol. Which tests do you suggest I request from my Dr?

I've had urine infections off and on for years. Ten months ago I couldn't get rid of it. For a couple of months I was going crazy taking different antibiotics and doing urine samples.I started using cranberry capsules and had a terrible experience with them which I didn't think was possible. Then I heard about d Mannose. Within a couple of days I started feeling better. I've been on it for about seven months now. During that time I gave experienced different uncomfortable feelings so I started doing Kegle exercises and noticed some relief after a few days. That was a couple of months ago and I have to do them three times a day or the feeling of something wanting to drop out of me comes back.. I also gave up caffeine and alcohol. I was still experiencing a bad ache in the address of the bladder and had been reading up on having an alkaline versus an acid body. I started using Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar and I am quite ecstatic that I am feeling normal quote often now. All the best. Deve

Hi Deve I've never heard of d Mannose I will google it, but why do you have to take it for so long as you said you were on it for seven months.

I was very sick and desperate so I kept looking and discovered that many women with the same problem have success with d Mannose. I might have to take it for the rest of my life who knows but considering the alternative this is so much better. The apple cider vinegar is very important too.

I'm in Canada. D mannose comes in powder form here. D mannose is something we already have in our bodies but lessens as we age. Don't know why they'd encapsulate it as it is a sweet taste. Make sure it's pure with nothing added.

thanks I will try the d mannose don't like the sound of the vinegar though, as I normally reach with stuff like that

One teaspoon of organic pure apple cider vinegar in eight ounces of water is not a strong concoction. I don't drink it right down just a bit at a time as I feel dry. I do drink three cups a day. I still have discomfort on and off but it's way better than having the severe ache in my stomach between navel and pubic bone.

No not been given any standby abx wish they would tho! And thankyou i had been worrying about the camera ... doesnt sound pleasant. Thankyou x

I would go back to your doctors and insist on it, as it seems to be quite common for tests to be negative when you do actually have an infection. Also for antibiotics not to work, all very frustrating. I was really worried as I'm such a baby as well as having convinced myself I had cancer as when I googled my symptoms it kept coming up, but the hospital staff were brillant, and it was just a little uncomfortable for 30 seconds. It's the same as having a catherter, they give you 2 tablets before as there's a risk of infection. They did an internal which I thought was odd and then scanned my kidneys.

Yeh iv been doing the same. Using cystitus & thrush stuff ... costs a bloody bomb but in pure despiration & in hopes of it working! Lol well fingers crossed the camera will show something very trivial & easily treated! Fingers crossed anyway!

      Thanks for all your advice
