Urine sample -repeat?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I dropped in a urine sample at my new doctor surgery and the nurse at my new patient appointment tested the sample and said I had leukocytes in my urine. She sent the sample to another lab and told me to call the surgery back in a week. But I had a phone call this morning from the surgery's receptionist who said that they want me to have a repeat urine test.

I'm worried, does this mean my urine sample was abnormal? I keep getting burning when having a wee, pain in my abdomen and feeling sick but whenever my urine is tested for something and something comes up my last doctors didn't give me anything and I get a lot of infections each year.

Can someone explain to me the above please?

hi jazzy, lve no personal experience of your situation, but do have intersticial cystitus, which does cause frequent heat in the urethra passage and tum along with levels of pain discomfort, also frequency, but doesnt show up bacteria in samples, due to it being an inflammation of the bladder not caused by known bacteria, either auto immune or allergic reaction. l think leukocytes are part of our immune system and produced normally to fight infection, some damaged ones are passed through when passing urine, but if of high level its not normal and can indicate infection. l,m not sure if theres an excess of leukocytes with i.c, but patients do have other cell abnormalities, producing too many mast cells causing inflammation, , mast cells also about immune defences, but too many overeaction causing problems.   If you get lots of bladder infection frequency pain, being off it, with negative sample results could be i.c, but also infection from other areas, they are at least rechecking but if no cause diagnosed you could ask about i.c. good luck

Hi Jazzy, i wouldnt be too worried at this stage. I used to work as a medical receptionist and quite often a rpt sample would b requested if the sample had leaked, or had mixed bacteria, trace of blood but maybe you've only just come off a period or even if it had missed the last collection from the surgery to the labs and maybe spent the night/wkend in the surgery fridge. If it had shown anything worrying they would have called u in as well as doing a rpt sample x hope ur feeling better soon.
