Urogynaecologist Consultation

Hi, I've been experiencing urinary incontinence for nearly two years. I've been referred to a urogynaecologist and my gp mentioned when making the referral that they might do urodynamics testing.

I'm quite apprehensive about my appointment. Can anyone share what to expect at first consultation please? Will the urodynamics be done on the first consultation or is there an examination before deciding what tests to do.

Thanks in advance.

If you have had your appointment letter it will tell you whether there will be urodynamics testing as you have to prepare for it .

if you just get a letter to say you have an appointment and nothing else then its probably just a chat and maybe a short examination. The consultant will decide whether to do urodynamics and you will get another appointment. It just depends how your Consultant likes to do things.

Before urodynamics you will be sent/given a questionnaire asking you about your incontinence and you may also be asked to complete a chart of "fluid in and fluid out" per day for probably a week. A good idea to buy a cheap 1litre plastic jug for measuring your urine output. The actual urodynamics testing can take all morning or afternoon and its a good idea to take someone with you to drive you home.
